From a distance, Rebecca could be seen sitting alone at a table near the translucent wall covered with window blinds, bathed in the sunlight shining brightly from outside the library. He took steps to approach his best friend.
"Sorry, I'm late," Felix said and leaned back on the chair facing Rebecca.
His shoulder bag was placed on the empty seat next to him.
"Have you ever come early when you promised to meet me?"
Felix just smiled.
"What are you doing all this time to see me? I have a lot of assignments to complete, you know? I'm getting dizzy just thinking about the effects of fashion on animals," Felix complained, depressed.
Rebecca didn't answer immediately, her eyes remained focused on her iPad screen.
"Hey! Did you hear what I said?" Felix asked when Rebecca pretended not to hear the question.
"Yes, I heard. I was looking for our senior post last night."
"What post?"
Rebecca continued to focus on looking at her Facebook timeline, looking for the interesting status she had seen last night.
"Okay, I found it."
The iPad screen was pointed towards Felix in front of her.
Felix frowned when he saw what was displayed on Rebecca's iPad screen.
For anyone who would like to join our paranormal activity exploration group at Monte Cristo Mansion, Junee NSW, please inbox us immediately. We will let you know the details.
Felix was a little surprised after reading the status.
"What is your motive for asking me to read the status of the senior brother?" asked Felix, surprised.
"Alex's status is okay. The senior brother I'm interested in."
"So?" asked Felix, still not quite understanding what exactly Rebecca wanted.
"Can we join them in investigating their paranormal activities? Who knows, we might get to know Alex's brother better."
That was Rebecca's true intention.
"Wow! You're stubborn, aren't you? I can't handle it. You know I'm a coward, right? Besides, do you believe in the paranormal activities that people have done before?" Felix asked, arguing. He wasn't the least bit interested in Rebecca's suggestion.
"I don't believe it? Didn't you see the video of the people who attacked Silverton?"
It's no joke for Rebecca to defend the man she's secretly interested in.
Felix is not satisfied.
"With the visuals swaying, then it looks like smoke is just floating around. I wonder if the smoke is smoke from someone's cigarette. It's just more propa."
It's not that Felix doesn't believe in ghosts. It's just that he doesn't believe in the recordings that their senior gang has made. There are no sightings of anything.
"Hey, it's nice of you to say he's a real person, isn't it? If you don't believe me, come on. Let's experience for ourselves what he feels when recording videos in those scary places. Junee NSW isn't even far from here, right?" Rebecca persuaded.
"You're just inviting me because your brother Alex is here, right? If he's not here, it's illegal for you to join, right?"
Rebecca grinned and laughed.
"Come on Felix.. you're beautiful."
When it comes to persuasion, there's only praise.
Felix growled in hatred.
"You're smart enough to praise me for being beautiful because you want to use me, right? Yeah, I'm too lazy to join. That thing doesn't bother us, why do we want to be bothered by that thing?" Felix said, questioning.
He believes that the supernatural exists. Every creature has been divided into its own parts according to their world. Why do we need to disturb their world? That's what he doesn't understand about the attitude of humans who like to disturb other creatures of GOD.
"Let's just go along and pretend we're just visiting the mansion without intending to disturb any of the creatures there. That sounds a bit good, right?" said Rebecca, still persuading Felix.
"I'm too lazy to get involved in this. Haven't you seen those horror movies? The ending is that all the demons that mess with you die, you know?"
Rebecca stared at the ceiling, "Shit!"
"Hello, it's a movie. It's just a design. Come on, what are you afraid of? I'm there, right?"
Felix sighed harshly. He stared at his friend's face for a long time. He couldn't help but look at Rebecca's pitiful face. They weren't new acquaintances. They had been good friends since high school until they both studied at this university. Only their majors were different.
"Please? I want to go alone, I'm shy," Persuade Rebecca again and again.
Felix remained silent. Should he agree to her best friend's invitation or not?
Felix lay down on the bed. His duffel bag was left lying on the floor. Felix had just arrived at his rented house. Lectures were quite intense today. They didn't finish until 5.00 pm. As he lay there looking at the spinning ceiling fan, Rebecca's invitation from this morning suddenly came to mind.
Felix got up quickly and walked to his study table. His laptop screen opened and the on button was pressed. He left his laptop on for a while before using it.
He reached for his backpack on the floor and took out his smartphone. Then, he threw the bag on the mattress. He typed something to send to Rebecca via the iMessage app.
Hey, what's the name of the mansion you're so excited to go to?
Message sent. Stared at laptop screen. He opened browser.
Ting!!!
His smartphone beeped, indicating that he had received a new message. Rebecca's name appeared on his smartphone screen. The message had been replied to. After looking at the content of the message, he returned to his laptop screen and typed something into the Google search box.
"Monte Cristo Mansion," Felix muttered as he typed the word.
Once finished, the 'enter' button was pressed. Rebecca's message was ignored.
There were several lists of websites related to the Monte Cristo mansion. He looked and read every related article. All kinds of history and myths about the mansion. Some said the mansion belonged to a murderer named Kalen Doss who was hanged in 2002. Some said the mansion land belonged to a famous person in the past.
According to the rumor, the area is harsh because it is haunted and a place where spirit visit. All the articles I read have no authentic evidence. They are just stories from previous people's experiences.
There is also a website displaying the results of their investigation at the mansion. But none of them were able to record any images or videos showing ghosts in the mansion other than the problems they experienced after visiting the old and abandoned mansion.
There was a story that made his hair stand on end. Some said that the mansion was guarded by a demon. Anyone who disturbed the place would definitely not be safe. And an article that surprised him even more was that there had been a brutal murder case in the mansion 10 years ago. Six teenagers reportedly died after turning the Mansion into a place of worship and spirit summoning games! Their saliva was swallowed, rough and passed down their throats. The hair on their bodies stood upright.
Felix turned to the wide open window of his room. He stood up and walked to the window. The half-open sash was pulled over the window. He wanted to close the window, it was hot, so he just pulled the sash.
His back was pressed back against the floor of the chair. He continued his interrupted reading.
"Felix..."
Felix's eyes froze from continuing to read every word on his laptop screen when suddenly he heard a soft whisper calling his name. The whisper greeted his left earlobe along with a gentle breeze that made him shiver. He swallowed, saliva was rough and painful.
Felix quickly looked back. Seeing the state of his room. There was nothing. The back of his neck felt swollen. He quickly stroked that part.
"Okay, I'll take a quick shower," Felix whispered to himself, then ignored his laptop. He grabbed a towel and walked into the bathroom.
The window sill seemed to bend as if there was a breeze blowing from outside the window. Behind the gap in the shutters, a figure in a bloody black robe was seen looking into the room. It was clear that both of his eyes were glowing red. A few seconds later, the figure of the figure disappeared like black smoke blown by the wind.
