Chapter 86 - Pikachu’s Magnetic Multiverse Journey! [85]

Cerulean City.

Unlike Pewter City, with its rough terrain of rocks and gravel, this seaside metropolis brimmed with vibrant commercial energy and countless Water-type Pokémon.

Ray Chu and Dapple had arrived discreetly on the roof of a cruise liner, slipping unnoticed into the bustling harbor. As the ferry's horn sounded a long note signaling its docking, lively young Trainers poured eagerly onto the pier, completely oblivious to the pair of stowaways overhead.

At the bustling docks, numerous Water-type Pokémon drifted lazily under the sun or assisted ships docking at their Trainers' commands, living in perfect harmony.

"Welcome to Cerulean City! The Pink Diva awaits you!" proclaimed a giant billboard floating near the harbor. Everyone disembarking clearly saw the three-dimensional hologram of a Jigglypuff twirling playfully through various costumes—pop idol, astronaut, princess, gothic Lolita—each cuter than the last.

Ray Chu gazed curiously up at the massive 3D screen. Even after traveling across several worlds, he'd never encountered technology like this. Back in the Dragon Ball world, his days had been spent either trekking through wilderness or training in remote villages, with little exposure to such urban marvels.

"Whoa, look! It's the Pink Diva! Cerulean City really is the fashion capital! They have aquatic ballet performances and Pink Diva concerts—I've always wanted to visit!" said a passing female Trainer excitedly.

Ray Chu's ears perked up involuntarily.

"Come on, let's check it out! I heard the show is amazing—we can catch Pokémon anytime!" her companion responded enthusiastically.

Hearing this, Ray Chu paused thoughtfully, then swiftly jumped down from his perch to land next to Dapple, who stood calmly grooming its feathers. After a quick, animated chat, an electric mouse and a Farfetch'd hopped onto a passing tram, drawing curious glances from onlookers. As the tram reached its stop, they joined the stream of people heading toward the concert hall.

Located in the city center, the performance hall fronted a spacious plaza dominated by another enormous Pink Diva billboard. The concert wouldn't start until evening, so fans had gathered in small clusters outside, browsing merchandise booths that the event organizers had wisely set up. Naturally, spontaneous Pokémon battles broke out nearby, quickly attracting enthusiastic crowds.

"Poliwag, use [WATER GUN]!" called one Trainer. The small, tadpole-like Pokémon shot a powerful stream from its belly, targeting its opponent—a Staryu.

Both Water-types faced reduced damage from Water moves, so the Staryu's Trainer chose Confusion, disorienting Poliwag instantly. Its eyes spun dizzily, leaving it wide open.

"Now, Staryu! [TACKLE]!" its Trainer ordered without hesitation.

"Oh no! Poliwag, dodge!"

But not all desperate shouts brought salvation. The sandy-yellow Staryu rocketed forward, smashing fiercely into the bewildered Poliwag, instantly ending the battle.

"Great job, Staryu!"

The audience burst into applause. Winning with a Normal-type move despite being a Water-type Pokémon showcased the Kanto region's hallmark flexibility—keeping opponents guessing was key.

Yet the most intense battle unfolded between a Gyarados and a Golduck.

Golduck, beloved by Water-type Trainers for its keen intelligence, stood poised—blue-skinned with a bright red gem gleaming on its forehead. Capable of mastering both Water- and Psychic-type moves, it was a perennial favorite.

Ray Chu glanced thoughtfully at Dapple beside him. Both Pokémon were similarly blue-and-white duck-types; perhaps there was some distant familial connection?

Dapple remained oblivious to Ray Chu's idle speculations, gripping its leek tightly and staring intently at the fierce battle unfolding ahead.

Its opponent, Gyarados, was notably rarer—only one in a hundred Magikarp ever evolved into this terrifyingly powerful Pokémon. Once transformed, its strength surged dramatically, capable of unleashing devastating Hyper Beams that shattered everything in their path.

Due to its volatile temperament, few Trainers could truly master a Gyarados, but the one before them clearly had a seasoned bond with its Trainer, cooperating flawlessly.

"Gyarados, use [DRAGON DANCE]!" the experienced older Trainer commanded decisively, immediately stacking buffs at the battle's onset.

With a deafening roar, the azure serpent soared into the sky, performing an intense, rhythmic dance that elevated its aura tremendously.

"We can't let it finish! Golduck, [PSYBEAM]!"

The Golduck's Trainer, a younger man with bronze skin, swiftly ordered his Pokémon. Golduck's eyes flashed with a piercing blue, thrusting both webbed hands forward, sending an invisible psychic force surging toward Gyarados.

But despite the high hopes, Golduck's psychic attack merely glanced harmlessly off Gyarados's steel-hard scales, doing little harm. Meanwhile, Gyarados's Dragon Dance concluded perfectly.

"Now, finish it off! [HYPER BEAM]!" commanded the older Trainer fiercely.

A blinding beam erupted from Gyarados's gaping maw, ripping through the air and surging toward Golduck.

"Golduck, [LIGHT SCREEN]—quick!"

A shimmering barrier appeared, but it shattered almost immediately. Though Golduck desperately tried to dodge, the destructive beam grazed its body, flinging it violently through the air.

"Golduck!" its Trainer cried in alarm.

Struggling up at its Trainer's desperate call, Golduck stood panting heavily, clearly at its limits.

The younger man sighed with relief—at least Golduck hadn't gone down instantly. He gathered his resolve and shouted, "Golduck, use [ZEN HEADBUTT]!"

With a defiant quack, the gem on Golduck's forehead shone brilliantly. A surge of psychic energy surrounded it as the Pokémon rocketed forward, vanishing from sight and reappearing like a missile aimed directly at Gyarados.

Caught helplessly in its recovery cooldown from Hyper Beam, Gyarados could only watch as Golduck's iron-hard skull slammed brutally into its lengthy, serpentine body, drawing out a pained roar and igniting furious red sparks in its fierce eyes.

"Calm down! Gyarados, use [TWISTER]!"

Under its Trainer's stern commands, Gyarados quickly mastered its anger, pushing past the searing pain. Coiling upward fiercely, it generated intense currents, creating a powerful cyclone that swiftly engulfed Golduck.

"Golduck!"

But the Trainer's desperate cries couldn't reach his Pokémon. Helplessly caught in the cyclone, Golduck spun higher and faster, completely losing its ability to resist.

Finally, when the Twister dispersed, Golduck—having experienced an unwanted flight—plummeted to the ground, eyes spinning, utterly unconscious.

"Gyarados wins!"
