"Hey Sunraku! Heard you were going for the UA Hero course?"
Sunraku sighed as he glanced at Oikatzo.
Katzo shrugged with a demonic smile.
The group sat around a large round table in their clan meeting room.
WOLFGANG
Leader: Arthur Pencilgon
Members: Sunraku, Oikatzo, Rust, Mold, Kyo Ultimate, Akane Akitsu, Psyger-0.
Currently online: Arthur Pencilgon, Sunraku, Oikatzo, Kyo Ultimate, Psyger-0
"I'm not going for it." Sunraku shook his head.
Katzo chuckled, "You took the test."
"I didn't expect them to still be interested in me!" He whined, "A decade should be enough to forget about me no?" He looked toward the members at the meeting.
Kyo Ultimate and Psyger-0 shrugged, both not knowing of his history with UA.
Pencilgon doubled over laughing, "Why did you give the exam in the first place?" Her character model was that of a beautiful woman in an outfit that left little to imagination.
"UA?" Kyo Ultimate frowned as she looked at Psyger-0. Her character model was of a samurai woman from the beast man race. Her large wolf ears shook as she frowned.
Psyger-0 shook her head rapidly. Her character model was a large muscular male covered in full high class armor.
"Yeah... UA." Sunraku answered, thinking that the question was for him. "My friends challenged me to set a highscore."
"All Might's score by the way." Katzo piped up while snickering.
"Shut up." Sunraku glared at him, "Anyway.... I fell for it. I thought I could simply deny the acceptance letter after I set a highscore. But.... I don't think they'll let me go now."
"Why?" Kyo Ultimate asked. "Is your quirk that good?"
Psyger-0 leaned forward in interest.
Again.
The two of them were out of the loop.
"Good?" Sunraku groaned, "Its the worst."
"It is good." Katzo denied.
"Hah." Pencilgon snorted, "Good for research."
The two high-fived and continued laughing.
Sunraku sighed.
"W...what does it do?" Psyger-0 asked.
"Its called Roulette." He explained, "Every time I activate my quirk it gives me a random ability for four hours before I can roll again."
"Random?" Kyo Ultimate couldn't believe that there was a quirk like that.
Psyger-0 tapped the desk, "It seems like a perfect fit for you Sunraku-san."
""""Don't add san in the game.""""
The group corrected her immediately. There was no need to show respect in game.
In the clan, everyone was equal.
"Perfect fit my ass." Sunraku muttered, "How am I supposed to be a hero when I don't know if my quirk is going to give me something that debuffs me? I got an ability during the exam that did not let me move if I had decided to help someone. Like I couldn't back off unless the person was safe. I had a broken leg and a punctured lung because of that."
The group took a sharp breath in surprise.
"It was that bad?" Pencilgon asked.
He nodded, "I got immensely luck at the start of the examination. Got a really good ability. Lets me transform into anyone and anything. I can transform into people and copy their quirk as well. But I chose to transform into one of the robots in the exam."
"Nephilim Hollow style?" Katzo interrupted, his eyes glowing.
"Exactly like that. It even looked like Fiddler Crab."
Katzo's eyes sparkled, "Do you have a video?
"Nope."
He deflated.
"Rust and Mold are missing this gem of a conversation." Pencilgon leaned back with a smile.
Rust and Mold were a duo of gamers whose love for mechs overshadowed everything else on the planet. Though one of them was probably more interested in the other rather than the mechs.
But that wasn't something Sunraku could comment on.
"So the transforming quirk-" Pencilgon frowned.
"Ability." Sunraku corrected.
Pencilgon gave him the side eye, "Ability. Can you turn into a woman?"
Sunraku sighed and then nodded.
"You could be a good spy." She replied.
Sunraku's eyebrows rose underneath his bird mask. She hadn't laughed at him. Nor did the rest. Though Psyger-0 did look a little uncomfortable.
"But I can't be a good hero."
The idea that he wouldn't be a good hero and would end up getting killed had taken root inside him very deeply. He had convinced himself.
And it was true.
Life wasn't as simple as that. Heroes died. The statistic was not popularized but it was publicly available.
Currently, in Japan alone, there were four hundred and fifty seven active heroes. This number was complimented by six hundred and thirty sidekicks.
This was without taking into account the underground heroes and the vigilantes.
And the problem here was in the past fifteen years, since Rakuro's birth, there were a hundred and forty three deaths or mutilations. Aside from six of them, the rest were all a result of villain attacks.
The medical field was advanced, yes. But there was only so much that could be done.
Death was a real consequence.
And Rakuro was not stupid enough to ignore that.
A single slip up would mean death. And unlike a game... he wouldn't be respawning.
"But I think you'll be a good enough hero." Kyo stated, her palm propping up her chin, "I've seen people with worse quirks work toward becoming a hero why not you? It's not like you don't have the mentality of a hero."
"I don't." Sunraku replied instantly.
Kyo shook her head, "You do. Your quirk might not have let you back off but that is only because you wanted to save the person." She wagged a finger at him, "That is all you."
"And what do you know about being a hero?" Sunraku frowned at her, "What makes you so sure about the qualities that a hero needs? Qualities that you say I have."
Kyo leaned back, completely unbothered by Sunraku's words, "I'm attending Shiketsu High right now. Hero course. As the heir to the Ryuguin family, I have to carry on my grandfather's legacy. My quirk, just like my grandfather, Fugaku Ryuguin, is Battle Zone. I've grown up around heroes and am currently in close proximity with those who aim to be heroes. And though I have known you for only a year and a half..... I can clearly see that you would be a worthy hero."
"Ho!" Pencilgon let out an impressed sound, "Didn't know we were with a celebrity."
Kyo frowned at her.
And she was not exactly wrong.
Fugaku Ryuguin was famous. Incredibly so. One of the few heroes who held significant influence over parts of Japan with not only his actions as a hero but also due to his contributions to society. His actions during the Battle of the Colossi had cemented him as a Japanese legend After his passing, the Ryuguin family had not made any headlines.
His quirk Battle Zone created an area around him where he sensed any and everything. With his dual blades, he was able to slice his way out of danger.
"Why don't you wield two blades in game then?" Katzo asked.
CLATTER
A bunch of different types of swords fell onto the table.
"I can wield every one of these. Every single one." Kyo began, "But together? Without game assistance? It is very difficult." She gestured toward Pencilgon, "What's your dominant hand?"
Pencilgon raised her right hand.
"You?" She asked Katzo.
"I'm ambidextrous." Katzo replied, "My quirk kind of forces me to be so."
"That is?"
"Instant Reaction." Katzo shrugged, "My mind and body react instantly."
Kyo's eyes stayed on him for a moment before moving to Sunraku, "You?"
"Both." He answered, "Born with it."
"Are you both insanely lucky?!" She blurted out, "Using the sword with my off hand is nowhere near as good as using the right hand. That's why I don't use it."
"But don't you use your left hand?" Katzo pointed out.
Kyo nodded, "This is training. My body isn't learning but my mind is. I have seen significant improvement in using my off hand due to this. And I will continue doing it until I feel like I'm good enough to dual wield.... Anyway...." She focused on Sunraku, "You'll do well as a hero."
Sunraku sunk into his chair, his eyes closing in thought, "I'll see you guys tomorrow." He said before logging out.
"That was too much for him huh." Pencilgon muttered.
Kyo nodded, "It is hard to come to terms with his nature. But he'll manage."
"Why didn't you ask Psyger?" Katzo asked.
"She's right handed." Kyo answered.
"How'd you know?"
Kyo pointed at Psyger, "This one is my younger sister."
"You are related?!" Pencilgon and Katzo blurted out in unison.
Psyger-0 squirmed in her seat, "Kyo..."
"Wait!" Pencilgon interrupted, "That means you are related to Psyger-1! Why didn't you step in during the negotiations?!"
Kyo gave her a wide smile, further angering Pencilgon.
"You are also a Ryuguin?" Katzo asked Psyger-0.
"She's my cousin." Kyo answered for a struggling Psyger-0, "She isn't a Ryuguin."
"That doesn't matter! She didn't help with the negotiation!" Pencil gon jumped over the table at Kyo.
Kyo leapt back and pulled out a sword but then frowned.
Pencilgon wasn't attacking her, instead she was looting the swords Kyo had placed on the table all while chuckling to herself.
"I'M GOING TO KILL YOU THIEF!"
"Wait." Katzo muttered as Kyo chased Pencilgon around the room. He bit into his shirt and growled, "Sunraku logged off before we actually got to why I called this meeting." His eyes looked bloodshot as he roared, "NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!"
The group wouldn't reconvene for at least a week.
