Chapter 1 - Quirkability

Yo! Manager here with a new fic. This is one that will be updated with a bunch of chapters every so often (Like say 3 or 4 chapters in one day of the week in bulk or just one chapter of a massive size). THIS IS A SIDE PROJECT and will always be second compared to the fic I'm almost done with. And if everything goes according to plan.... this should come out alongside a mass release chapters of STR(Arcane). That is..... for the new year.

Now before we begin with this story, I need to clarify a couple things.

First, the main character's abilities will be random. I will roll for it on a random number generator or ability generator and tack it on. That means that the character will not have everything go his way. Damn he might not even get into UA's hero course if his quirk screws him over. If you are looking for a main character who can solo the verse..... then this story is not for you. He does not keep his powers after the timer runs out.

And yes. His name is from Shangri-la Frontier. Thought of going HCLW or Hakari but they are all lucky as shit. HCLW is incredibly good at adapting to random powers (in Earth Game) but I'm still going to prefer Rakuro, simply because he enjoys games a lot more.

Second, this is not a harem fic. There will only be one girl for a relationship and I haven't decided which one yet. But I can tell you for sure that it is not going to be Nejire or Momo. Don't understand how all of you want the same characters over and over.

Third, since Pokémon abilities were designed to be used for a turn based combat scenario, I'm changing it a little here and there. Expect some to be stronger and others to be weaker. Quirkabilities in each chapter will be discussed in the author notes, so always check them out.

Finally, none of my stories will ever be behind a paywall. Nothing. This is a hobby, not a side business. I'm doing it for the love of the game. Not only am I not good enough to put my stuff behind a paywall, fanfiction being behind paywall is kind of illegal. All you have to do is wait for chapter uploads, like everyone else. It takes time to think and write.

And so! Lets Begin!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"What can you do today?" His sister asked without looking up from her breakfast.

He pulled up a chair and slumped down on it, "Haven't activated my quirk yet." Reaching for the stack of pancakes his mother made, he continued, "Why should I use my quirk at this point of day?"

"What you get something good?" His sister asked.

He poured the syrup over his pancakes and replied, "What if I get something bad?"

"Then you try again later in the day." Came the answer. "More tries. More chances to get a good quirk. Why not just try?"

He took a bite of the pancakes and groaned, "This is great mom."

Eika Hizutome turned around from the kitchen counter ,"Have as much as you want Rakuro." She continued with a smile, then turned to her daughter, "You too Rumi."

"Yes mom." Rumi took a bite of the pancakes on her plate and turned to her brother, "Answer the question."

Rakuro sighed, "Say I get a good quirk now. That's five hours with a good quirk. After that time runs out, what are the chances I get a similar good quirk?"

"You have to gamble." Rumi smiled deviously.

"Rumi Hizutome! Don't force your brother to gamble." Eika warned sternly.

Rumi looked shocked, "Its not exactly gambling. He is discovering parts of himself. He isn't losing anything either. Its fine."

"Its fine until he gets something that endangers his life." Eika shook her head, "Remember the time he got Defeatist?"

"NO!" Rakuro hugged his head in fear.

Rumi grinned happily, "Why do you think I'm telling him to activate it?"

He had pulled Defeatist once and it broke him. At first it was all normal like a quirk you couldn't quite recognize at first glance but then he tripped and fell. The palms of his hands got scratched.

The quirk kicked in.

It made him incredibly weak physically. Leaving him unable to even lift himself off the ground. But it wasn't just his physical stats that were gone. His mental ones too. Anxiety and nervousness shot through the roof. For those five hours..... he was essentially completely useless.

His mother had to baby him the whole day.

His father. He had done something Rakuro would never forgive him for.

He laughed.

The whole day.

That one ability had scared him into not using his quirk for a full month.

And from that moment on, Rumi had her eye on his quirk for her own personal satisfaction.

Premium entertainment she called it. Better than anything on Japanese television, but without all the random words plastered across the screen. Gained satisfaction from his suffering.

Senji Hizutome walked into the kitchen and poured himself a cup of coffee. "Activated your quirk yet?" He asked.

"Not yet."

"Why not?"

Rakuro sighed, "Fine."

He closed his eyes and let the roulette in his mind spin.

PING

PING

PING

Mega Launcher.

He frowned. That was a new one.

THUD

His right arm hit the table.

"A cannon?" Senji spoke aloud.

Rakuro looked at his hand and his eyes widened. Instead of his right arm, there was a cannon arm instead.

"My fingers...." He whispered. He hadn't had a new ability in a very long time.

Rumi on the other hand grew excited, "A new one! What does it do? Can you shoot it?"

"Not inside the house." Eika sighed, "Do it in the yard outside."

Senji shot to his feet and opened the glass slider doors to the yard in the living room, "Come on."

"Isn't usage of quirk in public without a license illegal?" Rakuro mumbled as he got to his feet.

Rumi chuckled, "Same excuse isn't going to work Rakuro. PUBLIC use is banned. We are still inside our property. Meaning, no need for a license."

The three stood outside, Rakuro in the center of the yard and Rumi and Senji stood off to the side, near the glass doors.

Senji took a sip of his coffee, "Shoot it into the air. Not at the garden. Your mother is trying to bait new insects there."

The Hizutome family was different.

Odd.

Eika Hizutome was a researcher. An entomologist. Her quirk, Insect Speech, lets her understand and communicate with insects. And that quirk led her to an obsession of insects.

Senji Hizutome ran a shipping company. Specifically shipping for fish products. His refrigerated trucks carried fish across the country. His quirk was Pathing. It let him choose the optimal paths to take when going from one location to the other. He used it in his professional endeavors by planning the routes for all his trucks.

Rumi Hizutome was the little sister. Three years younger than Rakuro, she had an obsession for fashion and fashion design. Her quirk, Design Outline, was perfect for her. It let her design anything mentally, and its blueprints would appear in front of her. She usually drew the blueprint and then showed it to everyone.

But that wasn't what made the family different.

The Hizutome family barely saw each other except for meal times. Breakfast and dinner were a family occasion. But any other time was personal time. Each of them had their hobbies and they had fun focusing on it.

Eika loved her insects. Rumi loved fashion. Senji loved fishing. And Rakuro loved gaming.

And any time they were at home, aside from mealtimes, they would be enjoying their hobbies. But at mealtimes, there was to be no discussion about hobbies. None at all. Otherwise there would be hell to pay.

"Fire already!" Rumi yelled.

Rakuro raised his hand up, his left hand instinctually moved to support his right cannon arm and willed himself to fire.

For a second, nothing happened.

"Performance issues?" Rumi asked.

Senji hit her in the back of her head, "Don't be crass."

"Ow." She rubbed her head.

BANG

BURST

A ring of blue erupted from his arm and flew into the sky exploding. His body creaked under the pressure of the burst and his arm shook from the recoil.

Drop of water rained down from the explosion.

"Water?" Rumi held her hand out catching drops of water.

Senji looked impressed, "That is a pretty good quirk right there. Water cannon."

"Its called Mega Launcher." Rakuro corrected, before frowning.

"What is it?" Senji asked, watching his son frown.

Rakuro looked down at his clothes and then groaned, "I'm drenched." He looked at his father. "I have school soon."

"In an hour." His mom said as she stepped outside. Looking around the yard, she spoke, "You can create water with that one huh? I think we can get a couple insects to come to my garden now."

"Five hours Eika." Senji said as he walked inside, "He'll be in school."

Eika smiled, "Well I suppose we have to wait till the next time he uses the ability again then." She turned to Rakuro, "Go change your pants quickly. Dry your shirt with a towel."

Rakuro looked at his arm and the shirt, sighing at the fact that he wouldn't be above to remove the shirt until his arm returned to normal.

"That's a hero quirk if I've ever seen one." Rumi said as she watched her brother sit in the sun trying to dry off.

"I don't want to be a hero Rumi." Rakuro replied, "I'm content being an average salaryman. Fighting villains while not knowing my own quirk is not ideal. Imagine if I get a quirk that puts a debuff on myself. Like.... " He shivered, "Like Defeatist."

"Debuff?" Rumi questioned.

"Negative status effect that makes things harder for me." Rakuro explained, "Its a gaming term."

Rumi frowned then turned to Eika and yelled, "Mooom! He is talking about games!"

"No! She asked me to explain it!" Rakuro shouted back, "And mealtime is over already!"

Thirty minutes later, He began his walk to school.

Musutafu Private Middle School.

It was one of their premiere schools for early education in Musutafu, with strict uniform regulations.

And unfortunately..... wet clothes were not part of regulation.
