Sophia's words hung in the air, echoing through the palace corridors. The Queen's eyes widened in surprise, and for a moment, she forgot about her power, her title, and her pride. She forgot about everything, except the pain and the regret that had been eating away at her soul for years.
"I forgive you," Sophia had said. And in that moment, the Queen felt a weight lift off her shoulders. She felt a sense of peace, a sense of redemption, that she had never felt before.
But it was too late. The Queen's followers had burst into the room, and they were dragging Sophia away. The Queen knew she had to act fast, or she would lose everything.
"Stop!" she shouted, her voice commanding. "Let her go!"
The guards hesitated, unsure of what to do. The Queen's eyes flashed with anger, and she strode forward, her presence commanding.
"Let her go, I said!" she repeated, her voice dripping with authority.
The guards released Sophia, and she stumbled forward, her eyes fixed on the Queen.
"Why?" Sophia asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
The Queen's expression softened, and she reached out a hand to Sophia. "I did it for you, Sophia," she said, her voice filled with emotion. "I did it because I wanted to protect you, to keep you safe."
Sophia's eyes widened in shock. "But why?" she asked again, her voice louder now.
The Queen's eyes filled with tears, and she looked away, unable to meet Sophia's gaze. "Because I was afraid," she said, her voice cracking. "I was afraid of losing you, of losing everything."
Sophia's expression softened, and she reached out to the Queen. "It's too late," she said, her voice gentle. "You can't keep running from the truth, Your Majesty. You have to face it, and you have to pay for your mistakes."
The Queen's eyes snapped back to Sophia's, and she saw the determination there. She saw the strength, the courage, and the compassion. And in that moment, she knew that she had made a mistake, a mistake that she could never take back.
But she also knew that she had a chance to make it right, to make amends for her past mistakes. And she was willing to do whatever it took, to sacrifice everything, to make things right.
"I'll do it," she said, her voice firm. "I'll do whatever it takes to make things right."
Sophia nodded, her eyes shining with tears. "I know you will, Your Majesty," she said. "I know you will."
The Queen nodded, and with a heavy heart, she turned to face the consequences of her actions. She knew that she would have to pay for her mistakes, but she was willing to do it, for the sake of her kingdom, and for the sake of her people.
As she walked away, Sophia watched her go, a sense of peace washing over her. She knew that the Queen had finally found redemption, and that the kingdom would be okay.
But as she turned to leave, she felt a hand on her shoulder, and she turned to see Prince Henry standing behind her, a look of determination on his face.
"It's not over yet, Sophia," he said, his voice low. "The real battle is just beginning."
