Chapter 14 - 13

The squad returned to Nolos, and then they went straight to their headquarters. The four of them entered the courtyard, handed their horses to the soldiers, and entered the headquarters. Elna led, and the three of them followed her. As they walked, a soldier walked up to them.

"Commander, the supreme commander is here. He is waiting for the four of you in your office." The soldier said and left.

"Okay," Elna responded. "Well, come with me."

"Okayy…" Melfer gave a lazy response.

They walked through the corridors and entered Elna's office. Elna was quite a fan of the art and loved dolls a lot. She had arranged some pieces of art and dolls in her office. And when they entered, General Ednita was looking at the decoration pieces and the dolls one by one. His aide, District Commander Reiler Otis, stood straight in a corner with his arms crossed.

"Hmmm…This is quite the collection, Miss Elna." The general complimented as he held a doll and looked at it.

"I am happy that you liked it," Elna replied with a faint smile.

"Well, you four have a job." The general sat on one of the chairs. "Come, sit."

There were four chairs. The general, Elna, Irnik, and Melfer sat in them. Leaving the aide and Felmer standing. Felmer looked at the captain, but due to the presence of the general and the district commander, he said nothing.

The general looked at the captain. The captain looked back, but he didn't understand.

"Is something the problem, sir?"

"Captain, I think you should let the heir sit."

The captain understood, and he stood to give up his chair to Felmer. Felmer sat and wiped his mouth to hide his triumphant smile.

The district commander rolled open a map on the table, and the general took out his dagger.

The Termonian leader and members of his council are coming here to renew the century-old alliance. Your job is to provide security to the convoy." The general said.

"And they think that our council will accept?" Felmer asked in confusion.

"Who knows? There will be talks rather than direct renewal. The political stakes are already high, so I doubt Raftin will accept anything without the council's approval."

"Elna, you and your squad will remain here at first. But on the road back, you will accompany them and ensure their safety. They will come here from the southern district and arrive at the capital tomorrow morning. They are scheduled to leave at evening. Hence, the operation will begin then." The general paused. "Felmer, you will be present in the meeting as the heir, and I as the supreme commander, so you will not take part in this operation. Speak freely in the council, you will have the second most authority as the heir."

"I will see…" Felmer said with a faint smile and slightly nodded.

"Well, then…" The general got up, and others did the same. "Rest, and be ready tomorrow."

Then the general and the district commander left the office.

"Be careful in the meeting," Elna said to Felmer and on her signal, the squad left the office.

The guards opened the hall's doors, and a commander entered. He walked up to the throne and bowed.

"Your Majesty, we have got a word that Termonian delegates will be going to Cerfis, and they will pass through the kingdom. Should we allow it?"

Larnet thought and then gave his reply. "Let them pass, they won't be a problem."

"Yes, your majesty." He bowed and left the hall.

"We can't do anything special due to the peace," Derif commented as the commander left.

"Correct, moreover, stopping wouldn't benefit us in any way."

"Indeed, your majesty. But won't this give some diplomatic and political support if they have a deal?"

"It won't be very beneficial for them in their fight against us."

"And what about the heir? The bandits and terrorists are not doing anything."

"Hmmm…We will think of something else. Leave him be."

"Yes, your majesty."

Larnet smirked and nodded. He had something in mind, but he was waiting for the right time.
