Chapter 16 - Terms, Trust, and the Senior Breeder Trial

Chen Xi'er hurried back after finishing her call, her expression noticeably more serious than before. Standing in front of Su Yu, she spoke without delay. "Su Yu senior, I talked to my grandfather. The three–seven split is acceptable." Hearing this, Su Yu was momentarily confused—things had gone through a little too smoothly. Sure enough, she continued, adding that there was one additional condition.

Su Yu raised an eyebrow slightly. "Tell me," he said calmly. Chen Xi'er coughed lightly, then explained in a serious tone that if Su Yu developed any new energy cube patents in the future, her family's company would have priority cooperation rights. This clause would need to be written directly into the contract. It was her grandfather's proposal, and it was clear that the old man was extremely optimistic about Su Yu's future potential.

After listening, Su Yu nodded without hesitation. "That's fine," he replied. "If I develop new energy cube formulas, I'll give your side priority. Since we're done with the intermediate cubes, let's talk about the low-level ones." He had no objections at all—if cooperation went smoothly, long-term partnership was only natural. With Professor Wang's endorsement and Chen Xi'er's sincerity, this arrangement posed no real risk.

Chen Xi'er nodded and asked curiously what conditions Su Yu wanted in exchange for the low-level energy cube formulas. She knew their value very well. Even low-level energy cubes sold in massive quantities, and with Su Yu's cost-reducing formulas, the profit margins would only grow larger. This was something she absolutely couldn't afford to miss.

Su Yu paused briefly before answering. "For the remaining low-level formulas, I want land," he said evenly. "Can your company help clear the mountain behind Feilu Orphanage?" Chen Xi'er froze for a second before confirming, "The Flying Deer Orphanage in the suburbs?" When Su Yu nodded, she relaxed. That land already belonged to her family, and it had been left unused for years. She immediately understood his intention. He was planning to open a breeding house.

"In that case, I'll give it to you," she said decisively. "The land-use rights will be exchanged for the low-level energy cube formulas. It's a full buyout—you won't share profits with us on those formulas." Her terms were clear and straightforward, with no tricks hidden inside. Hearing this, Su Yu nodded. "Then it's a deal," he said. "The mountain behind Feilu Orphanage, including the surrounding plains." That area was enormous, and trading a few low-level formulas for it was more than worth it.

Still, Su Yu couldn't help feeling slightly overwhelmed. He looked at Chen Xi'er with a complicated expression. "Excuse me… rich lady," he said with a helpless smile. "What's the name of your company?" Chen Xi'er blinked and answered casually, "Morning Sun Energy Cubes Ltd. Any problem?"

That settled it. Morning Sun Energy Cubes was a well-known giant within the Dragon Kingdom, famous for producing affordable and reliable products favored by countless civilian Trainers. Realizing this, Su Yu finally relaxed. With a partner like this, many future plans suddenly became much easier to execute.

The remaining steps were simple. Chen Xi'er directly finalized the licensing contract through the Breeders Association, and once both parties signed, the matter was officially concluded. Letting out a long breath, she smiled. "It's finally settled. I'll head back now. I'll bring the land certificate to the orphanage tomorrow—will that work?" She even offered to have someone deliver it if needed.

Su Yu couldn't help complaining inwardly. Wasn't she being a little too humble for the sole heir of such a massive company? Shaking his head, he agreed to meet her the next day. Before she left, he handed Ralts back to her. Seeing this, a trace of resentment flashed across her eyes. "It feels like Ralts is more attached to you than to me now," she muttered. "You look more like its Trainer than I do."

Su Yu could only smile awkwardly. Being liked by Ralts wasn't something he could control, after all. After one last complaint, Chen Xi'er returned Ralts to its Poké Ball, said goodbye, and left with the documents she had obtained. Watching her go, Su Yu smiled faintly before heading outside to grab a quick meal.

According to the contract, Morning Sun would pay an advance sum that would later be deducted from Su Yu's dividends. Without this money, many of his next plans would be impossible—opening a breeding house required capital, and waiting for profit distributions would take at least another month. After eating, Su Yu returned to the Breeders Association just in time for the senior breeder examination.

Professor Wang had already completed the registration procedures for him. After verifying his identity, Su Yu entered the examination room. Among the candidates, he was one of the youngest, but this didn't draw much attention—every exam session had a few prodigies like him. Whether they could pass, however, was another matter entirely.

For Su Yu, the senior breeder assessment posed no real challenge. The first stage was a written test, and he barely needed to read the questions before knowing the answers. After that came the practical portion: producing an energy cube based solely on a provided formula, with no proportions given. Candidates had to rely on their own experience to adjust ratios and complete the production. For Su Yu, this was effortless.

After clearing those stages, the final test focused on Pokémon care and treatment. Candidates were required to soothe and treat an unfamiliar Pokémon within a short time frame, earning its trust without provoking hostility. If the Pokémon attacked or strongly resisted, the exam would end immediately. This stage tested not only technical skill, but also affinity and luck. Treatment itself was simple—the real difficulty was gaining acceptance. A moment of bad luck could result in an attack or even injury if one failed to react in time.
