Chapter 11: The Devil Fruit
"Die!"
Just as the two clashed, Ka Sha suddenly leapt high into the air. A savage killing aura burst from his body as he gripped his massive blade in both hands and swung it down toward the Raptorex's head.
"Raaagh!"
The Raptorex roared furiously and rammed its enormous head straight into the blow.
Clang!!
The great blade shattered on impact. A shallow, thirty-centimeter gash appeared on the dragon's head—but not even a drop of blood came out.
Its massive skull crashed into Ka Sha's body, and his eyes bulged wide in shock.
"Pff—!"
He was hurled backward, slamming violently into a tree.
Boom!!
His body slid down from the trunk, kicking up a cloud of dust.
"Cough… cough…"
Blood poured from his mouth. Ka Sha could feel his insides crushed to pulp; every rib in his chest had snapped.
"Captain!"
The pirates on the hillside shouted in horror.
"No way—the captain got taken out in one hit?!"
"What do we do now…"
"We've got the numbers! No way we can't kill that thing!"
"Kill it! Save the captain!"
They exchanged glances, then bared their teeth and charged with raised blades toward the Raptorex.
The Raptorex's eyes flashed with mockery. When the pirates were just within reach, its body twisted sharply.
Its massive tail whistled through the air.
Wham! Wham! Wham!
"Arghhh!!"
"Pff! Pff! Pff!"
Pirates were flung away faster than they had charged, their chests caved in, blood spraying like fountains.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
They hit the ground like dumplings dropped into boiling water, gasping weakly as their bodies twitched.
Farther away, Camon—who hadn't joined the fight—stared blankly at the scene. Watching his crewmates get slaughtered like chickens by the dinosaur left him completely stunned.
"Who… are you!"
Ka Sha wasn't dead yet. Lying on the ground, eyes wide, he glared at Jiang Qize, gritting his bloody teeth as he forced the words out.
"Me?" Jiang Qize pointed at himself, smiling faintly.
"Pirate Hunter. Codename: Summoner."
"Pirate Hunter… Summoner… ha… hahaha…"
Ka Sha muttered weakly, then broke into hysterical laughter, spitting out blood with every breath.
A few seconds later, the laughter stopped. His head slumped to the ground.
—A few minutes later—
"So there really is treasure, huh."
Jiang Qize held up a parchment map, a faint smile on his face.
Beside him, Camon trembled uncontrollably, too terrified to look directly at either Jiang Qize or the Raptorex, who radiated a demonic presence.
"Let's go. Let's see if there's really treasure on this island."
Although he remembered from the anime that the treasure on Treasure Island had been fake, there had to be something here. Otherwise, how could the island's creatures have mutated like this?
They began climbing toward the tallest mountain at the island's center.
The mountain wasn't very high—just over a hundred meters—but it was dense with ancient trees, each thick as a man's torso and towering overhead.
Strange animals hid in the distance, watching them warily, too frightened to come close. The Raptorex's overwhelming aura kept them at bay.
Before long, they reached the summit.
The mountaintop was barren, with a half-meter-wide brown chest sitting in the middle. Moss covered its surface, and grass grew around its base.
Jiang Qize walked over and opened it without hesitation.
Click!
The lock snapped off, and the lid creaked open as a musty smell escaped.
Its contents were revealed.
A layer of gleaming gold coins lined the bottom. Resting atop them were two boxes—one large, one small—nestled together.
"This… could it be a Devil Fruit?"
He murmured as he stared at the larger box.
In the anime, boxes of that size almost always contained Devil Fruits.
He lifted it up and opened it directly.
