Chapter 11 - The Verge of Death

And besides who else but Nyx could dispatch so many High level gods within jer domain.

Eris's pupils frosted over with killing intent. She was hurt and was furious. But the part of her soul that had yet to fall into a murderous rage caused her to look at Adam nervously.

He was after all, just an innocent victim who jad been dragged into this. He had no reason to brave this danger for her sake. She was just about to urge gum to leave when . .

His next words caused her to break into a wide smile.

"Gargle my ballsack, you cock obsessed fucktard!"

"Kill them both!"

The central assassin commanded coldly, and in perfect unison, eight of the powerful god assassins he led raced towards Adam and Eris.

Behind them the remaining gods closed their eyes and began to chant sinisterly.

"You're courting death!"

Eris stretched out her hand and the darkness within a thousand miles obeyed her instantly, coalescing into an array of swords, spears, javelins, and hundreds of other terrifying shadow weapons.

The approach assassins were immediately overcome by the onslaught.

"What the-"

They crashed onto the ground and were no different from frail mortals as the onslaught of dark weapons descended upon them. Helpless to resist, they were soon skewered, impaled, and torn apart by the rain of dark metal.

The screams were muffled as the onslaught continued. Torn into by spears and crushed by darkness, before long there was nothing left of the pitiful gods.

This was the power of Eris!: The goddess of Chas and Strife!

But before she or Adam could rejoice, the gods that had stayed behind finished chanting. The one in the center announced:

"Chaos seal!"

Several dark glyphs flew from an object levitating within his palm and slammed into Eris. On closer inspection by Adam, it looked like a drop of dark blood!?

Suddebly the broiling power around her was realeased into the Void, and she collapsed weakly onto the ground

"The blood of your closest kin: Your mother Nyx, who remains above you in power, is still the only thing that can seal you.

Even as diminshed in power as you are, did you really think we would attack you without a plan!?"

Eris gritted her teeth. "Hateful!".

"You are the hateful thing here!" The god scolded. "To dare stain our goddesses reputation with your existence — with your filthy mongrel blood. Just die already!!"

The center assassin roared as he and the three others rushed towards the duo.

Barely able to follow them with his eyes Adam was forced to make a split second decision: Run or fight!

But as the Visage of Eris glowed warmly in his mind, he realized that . . .

There was no choice at all!

"Lena, there's no time to waste. I need you to synthesize five proton grenades and create a replusion barrier between us immediately."

"Synthesis Complete . . . "

"DOOON!!"

The approaching gods slammed into light blue spheres of energy and were abruptly pushed away.

But Adam couldn't relax. For the briefest moment after clash the barrier flickered weakly before strengthening itself again. And he could only imagine the drain Lena was taking on her energy reserves. But he couldn't see any other way out of this. . .

Outside the barrier, the attacking gods had reoriented themselves as they warily glanced at the barriers.

Most of them were now dead. But now that Eris– the only one powerful enough to kill them— had been sealed, the remaining four had become an irresistible force.

"Lena, can you cancel out the effects of the seal."

"I cannot negate all of it, and not for very long. I also won't be able to maintain the barrier whiles attempting it. The surest way to free Eris is to break the spell being cast."

"That's enough. You may release the barrier now."

Without delay, Lena released the barrier she had conjured and at the same time Adam threw three of the proton grenades Lena had created at the attacking gods with flawless accuracy.

They were merely confused and slightly wary as they saw three odd- looking projectiles sailing towards them and simply sidestepped too avoid them. Only the leader in the center sensed something odd and immediately bolted aways from the incoming grenades.

The other three reacted too late even as the grenades began to glow an ominous purple . . .

[BOOOOOM]

[BOOOOOOM]

[BOOOOOOOM]

Three mighty explosion ripped through space and illuminated the sky like a trio of miniature suns.

The three gods let out terrified shrieks as the explosions engulfed them.

But this despite his success, Adam could not breath easy. Proton grenades were the most powerful explosives in his time, but he was fighting gods after all.

It would only wound them and it would terrify them, but it wouldn't kill them. Which was why . . .

The explosions ended almost quickly as it began, releasing surging shockwaves from the point of impact and revealing three miserably burnt bodies.

The assassin's clothes had been entirely annihilated, their hair was singed, and several burn marks marred their bodies.

Deep down Adam was shocked!

The most powerful weapons of his time, and this was all the damage they could do!? What horrifying durability!

The three gods were about to take a moment to recollect themselves when they sensed something alarming. They immediately turned their backs to defend themselves, but their efforts were panicked — the trauma of the explosion had left their minds frail.

A partially recovered Eris easily snapped both their necks.

As he saw Eris— who's strength was supposed to be sealed— quickly dispatch his remaining comrades, the assassin leader's eyes widened in disbelief. After a brief look at Eris's his enraged gaze immediately fell onto Adam.

"It's you again. You're the one who is behind all of this strangeness!"

The assassin leader roared.

He had disdained to kill him initially because he was a weakling who would only stain his hands with his dirty blood. But again and again this "weakling" had impeded what should have been a smooth mission and caused some his subordinates to die.

"Always with the blame game with you gods. Who would have thought those three would lose their lives two a few trinkets. They were clearly a useless bunch. Shouldn't you be thanking me for helping you get rid of them?"

"What a bleak existence. Why does no one appreciate the good I do?"

Adam shook his head and sighed theatrically— as if he was truly hurt.

This caused Eris who had flitted back to his side to stare at him with shock.

Even in this situation he dared jest. Did he have not an ounce of awareness!?

Unfortunately the reaction his words triggered in the assassin leader was far greater than they both could have imagined.

"I .. .will . . .grind ...you. ..both .. .to. ..dust!"

Wirth reddened eyes he charged the both of them with raw killing intent. A sheen of volient red energy curling around his body.

"Careful" Lena warned.

Eris was of the same mind. She pushed Adam behind her as she attempted to resist the impending assault.

[BAANG!!]

The assassin fist rammed into Eris's Abdomen, and the impact sent her flying while spurting out a jet of blood.

Immediately after, he bore down on Adam with immense bloodlust and stuck his side with a ruthless kick.

Adam an intense jarring pain as the assassin boot ploughed through his side like a knife through hot wax, sending him flying as well.

With that singular strike, some of his organs had been turned into a ruined mess. His old body would have regenerated with time, but now he wasnt so sure.

'Wow, am I really going to die to this motherfucker?'

Adam laughed in self depreciation as he coughed up another mouthful of blood.

Eris was only few paces away, desperately trying to get back on her feet so she could save him.

She wouldn't make it.

"I should have killed you first!."

"Please mercy. . .please . . . before I die I need to. . . I need to .. .I need to let you know that your mother is a whore!"

Eris was immediately struck dumb again.

"DIEEE!!"

The assassin screamed with reddened eyes as he curled his hand into a vicious claw ad sent it hurtling towards Adam's chest.

With her remaining strength, Eris tried call upon even the tiniest wisp of her power so she could put a stop to what was happening right before her eyes. But it was to no avail.

The assassins clawed hand broke into Adam's chest, spewing blood and bone fragments everywhere.

"Is this how it ends, Lena?"

Adam asked weakly as his body slid of the Assassins had. He could tell that his heart had been completely crushed by that last attack.

"Goodbye my lord. Serving you has truly been an annoying hassle. I will not miss it."

Adam laughed weakly for a moment before his face scrunched in pain. He found that even if this was the end, he was unwilling. There was still so much he wanted to do.

That last bit of unwillingness gave him back some some his clarity. His focused onto the cruel god before him.

"Lena, he said something a drop of blood being the core of the sealing spell. I bet it's kept somewhere on his body.

The proton grenades can't really hurt him, but maybe they pack enough of a punch to destroy it. . .wherever it is.
