Chapter 1 - A Night With A Stranger

Third Person Pov.

Evans Rings stood up to make a toast to everyone seated, he was all smiles as spoke with a loud voice that portrayed the happiness he was feeling."I want to use this gathering as a medium to thank everyone here for coming,

I want to also specifically thank my fiance; Lena Smith, for everything she has done for me, for promoting and making me the general manager of her company, Smith Enterprise." He paused to take a breather but continued after a few seconds.

"Thank you Lena. I cannot wait to be the CEO of Smith Enterprises in a few days." Lena couldn't hold back her smiles as he stopped once

again to stare into her eyes.

"Lena, I want you to know that I will not let you down. Thank you for trusting me. Cheers." He completed and with a clink of their glasses, all his friends began drinking their wine and pouring more for themselves except for Lena Smith.

In a dimly lit room a small group of friends can be seen celebrating a major milestone.

Ashley Coleman, Lena Smith's friend, had been sitting in a corner seething with anger, and when she couldn't control it anymore, she decided to humiliate and perpetuate her plan for the evening.

"Why are you not drinking your wine?" Ashley asked Lena, false curiosity leaving her tone as she stared at her supposedly best friend.

Lena glanced up at the question, surprised that Ashley, her best friend for so many years, could ask her that kind of question knowing fully well that she never took alcohol, not even in the smallest quantity.

Ashley continued after gaining the attention of everyone on the table as she had clearly been seeking, seeing this as an opportunity, she once again shot out another question aimed at Lena.

"Are you afraid that Evans poisoned the wine or do you look down on us and don't want to drink the same wine as us?"

Lena was shocked and tried to explain herself, "No…that's not true..I…I just.." she trailed off as she looked up to Evans, hoping he would speak up for her but he instead turned away from her gaze, ignoring her silent plea for assistance

Freya, Ashley's friend laughed, the sound clearly aimed at making mockery of Lena, "If it wasn't due to the fact that you are Evans fiance and Ashley's best friend, we wouldn't have invited you here."

She paused, her gaze turning steely as she murmured under her breath.

"Always acting like you are better than everyone".

James, Evans' friend , echoed it from beside Freya with snickers, his face full of an unsettling light that caused Lena to shudder involuntarily as he spoke up, "We don't even want you here".

Ashley smiled with relish, clearly enjoying the chaos she had orchestrated, and pretending to be on Lena's side, she spoke up while also instigating their ire, she said.

"Evans went out of his way to get the best and most expensive wine all for you and he even toasted to you, can't you do him the honor of drinking the wine as an appreciation for all he does for you?".

Evans just sighed like he was already bored and needed to move on from the conversation, he drew Lena close to his side and whispered softly into her ears,

"Behave yourself, can't you see you are embarrassing me in front of my friends? I already gave you my word to marry you next week and all you have to do is drink a little bit of alcohol to please me.

" He paused as if thinking about it before nodding to himself and continuing.

"Alright, I promise I won't make you drink much, after the celebration today, you won't have to taste alcohol ever again."

To the eyes of everyone he was coercing her and they were the most loved up couple in the whole of york city..

Lena smiled and closed her eyes, picking up the wine glass with a slight tremble to her hands as she brought it to her lips.

The scent alone was enough to make her gag but she held it back, then she gulped down the entire wine from the glass at once, holding back a sneeze as it burned the back of her throat.

Evans decided to pour another glass for her but she quickly stopped him by subtly covering the glass with her palm and whispered to him, trying to explain to him.

"I drove to the venue and I need to be able to drive back myself to avoid any inconveniences." She said it hurriedly, expecting Evans to understand and support her but he turned his face away again with a tight freeze of his brows.
