Because their RA was coming for a dorm inspection today, their plan to fool around was naturally off the table.
The two of them walked part of the way around campus, from the grove of trees to the pavilion by the river. A couple was kissing in the pavilion.
Holly Winslow quietly pulled Mortimer Quincy around the other side to avoid them, but as it turned out, another couple was kissing on the bench under a willow tree.

Mortimer Quincy raised an eyebrow and whispered, "Babe, you know what this is called?"
Although Holly Winslow couldn't guess his exact words, she knew it was going to be some kind of cheesy line. She stuck her tongue out. "Sorry, but I'd rather not know."
Even though she said she didn't want to know, that rascal Mortimer said it anyway, enunciating every syllable. "The Kissing Theorem."
"Given the pavilion and the bench, it follows that Mortimer Quincy and Holly Winslow must kiss."
