The system panel displayed the intruder's data clearly.

A Level 25 Pokémon.

"Skreee—!"

Golbat looked around and realized the Zubat inside the cave were gone. Signs of battle were everywhere. Letting out several piercing screeches, it fixed Leon with a gaze filled with hatred.

"A level 25 Golbat… Looks like I hit their nest," Leon muttered.

His expression turned serious, but there was no panic. With his abilities, even if he couldn't defeat it, Golbat wouldn't be able to keep him here.

Compared to Raticate, this Golbat was much stronger—but not overwhelmingly so.

"Skree—!"

Golbat attacked again. As it screeched, rippling waves of energy spread through the air—Supersonic.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The cave shook violently. Cracks spread across the walls, and small rocks tumbled down.

Leon's figure vanished once more, heading straight for the cave entrance.

"Skree—!"

Seeing the human trying to escape, Golbat immediately gave chase, wings beating furiously. It was determined to kill this intruder.

Leon burst out of the dark cave and sprinted through the jungle, a black shadow pursuing closely behind.

Thud—

Leon took a few steps back, then flipped upward, landing firmly atop a thick tree branch.

"Skree—!"

Golbat's wings glowed as it appeared in front of him, unleashing Wing Attack, slamming downward—

—into empty air.

Leon had already teleported behind it.

With a surge of psychic power, massive rocks and sharp tree trunks were hurled forward simultaneously.

"Skree—!"

Golbat released another burst of Supersonic, shattering the incoming projectiles. Its body twisted sharply, breaking free from the psychic restraint and narrowly avoiding Leon's ambush with the metal rod.

"Hah… This Golbat really knows what it's doing."

Leon widened the distance between them. This Golbat was clearly battle-hardened, with lightning-fast reactions.

But his own psychic power was still lacking. Fighting it head-on was pushing things.

"If psychic power isn't enough," Leon said calmly,"Then I'll use technology."

His hand reached into the spatial backpack. He pulled out a rifle.

Click. Click.

A few quick adjustments, and the weapon was ready. Leon aimed it straight at Golbat.

Firearms might be useless against high-level Pokémon—but against lower-tier ones, they were still extremely effective.

Leon was well-trained with guns. He was highly proficient.

This was one of his trump cards.

BOOM—!

Several towering trees collapsed as Golbat burst out of the smoke, locking onto Leon once more.

By then, Leon had finished calibrating the rifle. He looked at the charging Golbat and smiled.

"Golbat," he said calmly,"Times have changed."

Rat-a-tat-tat—!

Leon opened fire. At the same time, he activated his psychic power, interfering with Golbat's movements.

"Skree—!"

Golbat screamed in pain. Several bullets struck home, bursts of blood spraying from its body.

Leon increased his output. The rifle roared nonstop as he divided his focus—firing while continuing to suppress Golbat with psychic force.

Before long, Golbat crashed heavily to the ground.

"Heh. Just like I thought," Leon said with a grin."Beyond seven meters, the gun is fast. Within seven meters, the gun is fast and accurate. Add psychic support, and my combat power really isn't low."

He walked over. Golbat was still struggling—but it was clearly at its limit, nowhere near its former ferocity.

"Magikarp, go. Give it a couple of good slaps."

Leon released Magikarp.

Magikarp hopped forward enthusiastically. Its tail swung—

Smack! Smack! Smack!

Just like that, a Level 25 intermediate Pokémon lost its ability to battle.

Golbat probably never imagined that the one to finish it off wouldn't be a rival of similar strength—

—but a Magikarp it would normally never even look at.

"Golbat defeated. 15 Battle Points obtained."

The system notification echoed. A Poké Ball flew through the air, capturing Golbat.

Leon picked up the Poké Ball, then turned around and noticed Magikarp looking unusually dejected.

As its Trainer—and a psychic—Leon immediately understood what it was thinking.

Boss… am I a burden? It's been so long, and I still haven't evolved. Every fight, you're the one taking the lead…

Magikarp floated in the water, blowing bubbles, its eyes filled with a quiet intelligence.

Magikarp couldn't speak, but through their telepathic link, its thoughts flowed clearly into Leon's mind.

"Hahaha," Leon laughed softly."You're not my burden, partner. Once you evolve, I'll be relying on you."

"You will evolve. With your potential, if you can't, then who can? Have confidence, Magikarp. Believe that evolution belongs to you."

Through their mental connection, Leon encouraged it, reinforcing its wavering confidence.

Magikarp stared at its Trainer's warm smile. The resolve in its intelligent eyes grew stronger.

It wanted to evolve.

To become stronger.

To help.

As that thought took hold, power began to surge within its body. A faint white light started to radiate outward.

I will evolve. It has to be me.

"Huh?" Leon blinked."Already? That fast? Guess my motivational speech actually worked… But we need a place rich in Water-type energy."

On the system panel, Magikarp's level rose to 19, and clear signs of evolution appeared.

Leon immediately picked up Magikarp and rushed toward a Water-type energy source.

Before long, they reached a river.

Splash—!

Magikarp plunged into the water. Water-type energy gathered rapidly around it.

For Water-type Pokémon, evolving in water was ideal—it provided additional benefits. This was common knowledge.

Splash—! Splash—!

Magikarp leapt out of the river again and again, jumping higher each time. The white light around its body grew brighter—

—but something was still missing.

It hadn't evolved yet.

"Then let me give you a little push," Leon said."Magikarp—catch."

He took out the Rare Candy rewarded by the system and threw it toward Magikarp.

Item: Rare CandyEffect: A mysterious candy that raises a Pokémon below Level 70 by one level

Magikarp understood instantly and swallowed it.

In the next moment, its aura surged violently, smashing through the bottleneck. Brilliant evolution light erupted from its body.

Magikarp began to evolve.

A massive amount of Water-type energy converged around it. From within the glowing cocoon, a powerful presence emerged—

—one that carried the brutal, tyrannical pressure unique to the Gyarados lineage.

Within the river, weaker Pokémon fled in terror the moment they sensed it. Even stronger ones dared not approach, watching from afar with wary expressions.

That saved Leon a lot of trouble. No one would interfere with Magikarp's evolution.

Inside the light, a massive silhouette stretched longer and longer, forming a dragon-serpent shape nearly seven meters tall.

"ROOOAR—!"

A ferocious roar shook the surroundings.

The light faded, revealing a vicious, awe-inspiring Gyarados.

"Evolution… successful."

Leon felt a surge of joy—but quickly restrained his smile as a thought crossed his mind.

At that moment, Gyarados slowly turned its gaze toward him.
