When I opened my eyes, sunlight filtering through the leaves struck my face. I had to squint. My throat burned; my mouth was completely dry. Even breathing made my entire body ache, as if I had been slammed hard against the ground.
The surroundings were quiet. Wind moved through the trees, leaves rustling softly. Then I heard a voice—young, but cautious.
Are you alive?
I forced myself to lift my head. Two children were standing in front of me.
One of them had blond hair. His hair was messy, his face smeared with dirt. He wore worn but carefully kept clothes. His eyes were filled with worry, yet he didn't step back. He was curious, as if he wanted to help.
The other had black hair. It was short and unruly, and the freckles on his face stood out immediately. He was holding a stick—not loosely, but with a firm grip. His gaze was sharp. He looked at me with suspicion, ready to attack at the slightest movement.
His eyes were too serious. Too sharp. Too cold for a child.
I didn't know them.
Yet there was a feeling inside me I couldn't explain, as if I had seen those eyes before.
Water… I managed to say, my lips trembling.
The two children looked at each other. They didn't understand.
Japanese…
What was "water" in Japanese?
I couldn't remember.
Suddenly, a sharp pain stabbed into my head.
Ahhh!
Memories I didn't recognize came rushing into my mind. The sea. Sails. Marines.
The Pirate King.
And then a name echoed in my thoughts.
Foosha Village.
My heart began to race in fear. My breathing grew uneven.
The blond-haired child took a step forward. There was a timid courage in his voice.
Ace… %'&ˆ+&+%/+%&
At that moment, the black-haired boy's gaze grew even sharper. He didn't take his eyes off me. It was as if he was searching for something inside me, weighing whether I was dangerous.
Suddenly, words appeared before my eyes.
[BOUNTY HUNTER SYSTEM ACTIVATED]
My heart felt like it was about to burst out of my chest. The world began to spin. As my consciousness faded into darkness, the only thought running through my mind was this.
Please… let all of this be just a dream.

When I opened my eyes, I saw lines of text flowing before my vision. Bluish, semi-transparent letters hovered in the air, as if carved directly into the atmosphere.
"Did I really transmigrate… a parallel universe… another world… what is happening?"
As I spoke, I looked around. The two children who had been here moments ago were gone. However, they had left something behind. On the ground lay a large chunk of meat and unusually enormous fruits. Just like in anime—oversized, unrealistic, yet strangely appetizing.
A sudden pang in my stomach made me realize how hungry I was.
I slowly stood up. My knees trembled. I picked up the meat and took a bite. It was unseasoned, without salt or spices, yet it tasted better than I expected.
"I transmigrated… Those two kids might be Ace and Sabo. And I think… I've become a child myself."
My gaze instinctively fell on my hands. Small, thin, and weak. For a moment, I didn't know what to think. Back in my old world, like everyone else, I had fantasized about being reborn in another universe. But what I felt now wasn't excitement—it was pure fear.
Memories flooded my mind.
"I'm an orphan in Foosha Village. The village chief and Makino take care of me. Sometimes the other villagers help too. I went up the mountain… because I wanted to kill myself…"
Nausea twisted my stomach. I dropped the meat and clutched my abdomen as the memories kept pouring in.
I realized that I had no friends in the village. The chief, Makino, and a few others treated me kindly, but this world was cruel. At most, they gave me food, clothes, and a sturdy roof over my head.
There was another child in the village who lived alone, just like me: Luffy.
But I wasn't friends with Luffy.
In fact… I hated him.
Luffy was laughter, joy, endless energy. I, on the other hand, was like a shadow—silent, brooding, lingering in corners all day long. That was why the village children called me the "White Devil."
"A terrible childhood…"
Yet among those memories, something important stood out.
Hunter D. Jack.
A faint memory about my family… The Hunter family was a pirate family. But they weren't ordinary pirates. They were pirate hunters. Once, their name was feared across the seas—infamous, overwhelmingly renowned.
Until the Pirate Era, sparked by Gold Roger, began.
The number of pirates had grown endlessly. No pirate crew wanted pirates who hunted other pirates around them. Still, it wasn't weak pirates that brought about my family's downfall.
"Big Mom…"
She was the one who destroyed my family.
Before dying, my mother entrusted me to Monkey D. Garp, the hero of the Marines.
Those memories were blurred and fragmented. I shook my head.
"Was there ever a family like this in One Piece? Or is all of this just fiction? Is God playing a game with me?"
As if trying to suppress my thoughts, I started eating the meat again. I was starving. By the time I finished all the food, the sky had lost its crimson glow, and darkness slowly spread over the forest.
"I should return to the village…"
I had neither the experience nor the courage to survive in the forest. I set off immediately. By the time I reached the village, night had fully fallen. There were no lights, no people wandering the streets.
I went straight to my small hut behind the village chief's house. No one was waiting for me.
Still, when I closed the door, surrounded by the silence of the hut, I felt a small sense of safety.

"I'm safe…"
I whispered the words. The silence of the hut pressed down on me; from outside, only the muted sound of the wind and distant waves could be heard. The tension in my chest eased, if only a little.
I immediately shifted my focus to the system. I had noticed a few things on the way back, but now it was time to examine everything properly. With a single thought, I opened the shop.
[SKILLS]
[DEVIL FRUITS]
[VEHICLES]
[WEAPONS]
[MAPS]
[INFORMATION]
I entered the Skills section first.
[HAKI]
[MARINE COMBAT STYLES]
[FISH-MAN COMBAT STYLES]
[SWORD COMBAT STYLES]
…
The list went on and on. My eyes were immediately drawn to Haki. When I entered, I saw that there were only three types.
[LEVEL 1 OBSERVATION HAKI: 100 POINTS (PURCHASABLE)]
[LEVEL 1 CONQUEROR'S HAKI: 1000 POINTS (PURCHASABLE)]
[LEVEL 1 ARMAMENT HAKI: 100 POINTS (NOT PURCHASABLE)]
[LEVEL 2…]
Conqueror's Haki went all the way up to level seven. The other two ended at level six. The strange part was this:
Observation Haki and Conqueror's Haki could be purchased, but Armament Haki was locked.
I frowned.
"It's probably because my strength is too low…" I muttered.
"Whatever. Let's check the others."
I skimmed through the rest of the Skills section. Combat styles, techniques, passive abilities… There were so many that it was almost overwhelming.
Then another thought crossed my mind.
"I wonder which Devil Fruits are available…"
I opened the Devil Fruits section.
[YAMI YAMI NO MI (DARK-DARK FRUIT): 10,000,000,000 POINTS]
My eyes widened.
"What the hell… ten billion points…"
Even I could tell how absurd that number was. I looked further down the list. The Flame Fruit was right below the Dark Fruit, priced at one billion points. There were many other powerful and famous fruits as well.
The cheapest one, however, was this:
[HITO HITO NO MI (HUMAN-HUMAN FRUIT): 100 POINTS]
"That must be Chopper's fruit…"
I frowned again.
"Why isn't the Nika Fruit here?"
I carefully scanned the list once more. Many of the well-known Devil Fruits from the anime were missing.
"I guess… I can only buy fruits that currently have no owner."
I nodded to myself.
"Let's check the other sections."
The moment I opened the Vehicles section, the answer became clear.
[URANUS (ANCIENT WEAPON): 100,000,000,000 POINTS]
[PLUTON (ANCIENT WEAPON): 100,000,000,000 POINTS]
I immediately understood that I would never be able to buy those. The list continued downward—ships, boats, even airplanes and helicopters were available. The cheapest vehicle was a simple boat, costing only 10 points.
When I moved on to the Weapons section, I saw famous swords ranked at the very top.
Then came Maps…
And there it was—the thing that stole my breath away.
[LAUGH TALE ISLAND: 1,000,000,000,000 POINTS]
"The location of One Piece…"
My heart began to pound violently.
One trillion points.
"Maybe… I could collect that much." I thought.
Even though I had transmigrated from the modern world, Hunter D. Jack's memories had merged with mine. I wasn't completely unfamiliar with this world. One Piece was the single treasure everyone desired here.
Even a village woman who had never set foot on the sea…
Even an old, cowardly man…
Who wouldn't want One Piece?
But people lacked courage.
The path leading to One Piece was filled with thorns.
Still, everyone had imagined—at least for one night—what it would be like to obtain One Piece.
"I shouldn't be thinking about this…"
I shook my head.
The Maps section contained countless charts. The cheapest one was the Goa Kingdom map, priced at only 10 points.
Finally, I entered the Information section.
"Strange…"
The most expensive piece of information was the ability to read Poneglyphs. Beneath it were many other types of knowledge. The cheapest was a 1-point fire-starting skill.
I spent the entire night exploring the system. Jumping from menu to menu, I didn't even realize how much time had passed.
And before I knew it…
I fell asleep.

"They Kidnapped Luffy!!!"
"The bandits kidnapped Luffy!!!"
The loud shouting jolted me awake. I jumped out of bed immediately. I walked toward the door, but stopped just as I was about to open it.
Is this the first episode? The one where the bandits kidnap Luffy… No—was yesterday the first episode? Is it safe to go outside now?
This world was extremely dangerous. Almost everyone carried a gun at their waist. Still, I took a deep breath and opened the door. After taking a few steps, I saw the crowd on the road. Only the village chief and Makino were there. All the other villagers had shut themselves inside their homes.
"Shanks…"
He was wearing a straw hat. I recognized him instantly from his red hair. I felt as if I had been nailed to the ground.
"Bang…"
"Pat…"
"Boom…"
The road suddenly turned into a battlefield. My legs felt weak. The fat pirate had shot the bandit straight in the head. The man was definitely dead. The smell of dust and gunpowder spread through the air. Luffy and the bandit leader vanished in an instant.
Shanks shouted like a child. "No! They escaped. We have to save Luffy!"
I couldn't remember the fat pirate's name; he was trying to calm Shanks down. I just stood there, frozen. This was the closest I had ever been to death. I had never even attended a funeral before. The pirates quickly spread out. As I stood there not knowing what to do, the village chief noticed me.
"Jack… go home. Now," he said.
I nodded and returned to the small shack I had come from. The moment I closed the door, I collapsed to the floor.
"What… am I supposed to do in this world alone…?"
I knew Shanks was a good person. But even a good person could kill someone without hesitation. It was to save Luffy, of course—but I was still afraid. I didn't leave the shack for the rest of the day. My thoughts kept spinning in my head.
That evening, the village chief came. He was holding a plate of food. His face looked tired and sad.
"What a shame… Shanks lost his arm to the monster. Jack, the sea is very dangerous. Be a good villager. Don't become friends with Luffy," he said.
I didn't answer. He wasn't expecting one anyway. He left the food and went away.
"Don't be friends with Luffy…"
Those words were said to every child in the village. The other kids didn't like Luffy—or rather, they stayed away from him. Because Luffy shouted his dreams out loud. Being a pirate might look fun from the outside, but in reality, the seas were filled with dead pirates. Very few ever returned home. Most either died or disappeared. That was the truth of this world.
"I never thought about becoming a pirate… At one point, even suicide seemed more reasonable."
I shook my head. As I ate, I thought about Luffy.
I should be friends with Luffy… like brothers. Ace, Sabo, and Luffy… I could train with them in the forest.
I didn't say it out loud. The village chief might hear me. But I had made up my mind. Ace, Sabo, and Luffy were incredibly strong. If I trained with them, I could grow stronger quickly.
The next morning, I left the shack and went to Makino's bar. The moment I walked in, I noticed how unusually quiet the Red-Haired Pirates were. Shanks's right arm was gone. Luffy was sitting beside him, his head lowered.
Shanks glanced at me, then turned to Luffy. "Who's this? Do you know him?" he asked.
Luffy looked at me as if he were about to cry. "White devil…" he said.
Makino cut in sharply. "Luffy! His name is Jack. Don't call him something so rude."
Everyone looked at me. Silence fell. I walked over and sat beside Shanks. He examined me with a serious expression.
"White Devil… That's a big nickname, kid," he said.
Makino quickly added, "Jack doesn't like that name."
My hand went to my white hair. I knew why the villagers called me that—because of my white hair and red eyes.
"I like it now," I said. "I've decided to go out to sea. That name might strike fear into my enemies."
Complete silence filled the bar.
"HAHAHA!"
The pirates suddenly burst into laughter. Luffy jumped up and stared at me in shock. Shanks slapped my shoulder.
"Kid, you're smarter than Luffy."
"No!" Luffy shouted. "I'm smarter!"
The pirates weren't laughing at me. They needed to laugh. Their captain had lost his arm. They needed it.
Makino broke the laughter. "Jack, did something happen?" she asked.
I took a deep breath. "I've decided to go out to sea."
Makino looked worried, but Shanks slapped my shoulder again. "A real man should go out to sea."
"Let's go together!" Luffy shouted. "Let's become pirates!"
I looked at him. I was older than Luffy; I was eleven. "I won't become a pirate," I said. "I'll be a bounty hunter."
The bar fell silent. I turned to Shanks. "Can you teach me Haki? I'll repay you in the future."
Shanks laughed. "What, are you going to hunt me down someday? Hahaha!"
Laughter rose again.
"What's Haki?" Luffy shouted, but no one heard him.
Shanks finished his drink and stood up. "It's time to go."
"So soon?" I asked.
But no one looked back. The bar emptied in an instant. Makino came up beside me.
"Jack, Garp-san won't like this."
I shrugged. "I don't care."
I followed the pirates outside. Supplies were being loaded onto the ship. Shanks spoke with Luffy and placed the straw hat on his head. I watched the scene silently.
The Red-Haired Pirates were gone before I could truly know them. Luffy was crying alone on the dock. Makino watched the ship with longing.
As the ship sailed away, I walked up to Luffy.
"Want to be friends?" I asked.
Luffy nodded through his sobs. "Yeah…"
He gripped the brim of the straw hat and watched the ship disappear through his tears. My eyes filled as well. Crying was contagious.
