"Back to life?" Lena's voice cracks with disbelief. "Is that even possible?"
My throat tightens as I shake my head. "No. It won't work. His body has been dead too long. It would fail."
The desperation I felt before pales in comparison to what crashes over me now. Every fiber of my being screams with helplessness. During my training at the Academy, we spent an entire year studying vampire lore. James taught me far more than those dusty textbooks ever could, but one brutal truth remains unchanged: vampires cannot survive resurrection.
History is littered with failed attempts. Before the great war when witches decimated most vampire bloodlines, vampires would turn every witch they could capture. Their twisted hope was to create magical vampires, bound to serve their makers as weapons against our kind.
