Nora's POV
"What?" The word bounces off the walls around us. Lena has lost her mind. There's no way that's possible.
"I can hear a heartbeat. It's really faint and incredibly slow. But it's definitely there."
"No... that can't be right."
"Here, listen for yourself if you think I'm wrong." She pulls off the stethoscope and extends it toward me.
I shut my eyes tightly. "I trust you. It's just... it shouldn't be possible. His heart stopped beating over a thousand years ago. There's absolutely no way."
"I've heard some people describe vampirism as a kind of disease. Could it somehow reverse itself?"
"Vampirism isn't a disease. It's ancient dark magic. There's no way it could just—" I stop mid-sentence and whirl around to face James. "Oh my god."
"What?" Lena blurts out.
"Magic."
"You've lost me."
"Step aside."
"I need to add more adhesive to this suture. It's still bleeding."
