I close the book and look up, blinking my tired eyes. The upper level of Harold Gate Academy's two-story library has been my refuge for the past two hours, searching through every text mentioning angels.
James must be right about angels not wanting Nephilim to exist because they know we can actually harm them. I don't plan to murder any angels, but finding a way to defend myself if discovered would be invaluable.
Two hours of research have yielded nothing, and the tension headache threatening to return makes me lean back with a frustrated sigh. I scan the library around me.
This place ranks among my favorite spots in the entire Shadowhaven. Books have always been my sanctuary, offering escape through fictional worlds and characters that helped me survive my terrible childhood. When I started here, that escape from reality remained essential.
