Nora's POV
"A simple phone call would have been enough."
I take a sharp breath and push myself upright, scanning the chaotic room around me. James's belongings are scattered everywhere, but Antonia has vanished from my bedside, and Evangeline is nowhere to be found.
Instead, he's here, perched on the bed's edge.
"That would have been convenient," I mutter, running my fingers through my tangled hair as I face Hugo. He's wearing another black suit, though this time the faint shimmer of chains around his wrists catches my eye. "So you actually heard me calling?"
"Every word." He rises and moves toward the window. "Which tells me dear old Dad is giving you the silent treatment once more."
I pause, choosing my words with care. "I have some questions that need answering."
"Questions that others refuse to address."
He's aware that Shane has been avoiding me, but why does he want me to confess it outright?
"Questions I doubt anyone else could answer properly."
