Nora's POV
I stare down at the lifeless squirrel, its small body motionless against the grass. Antonia pokes it gently with her designer shoe, her expression thoughtful. "Bringing back an animal is different from bringing back a person, right?"
"Completely different," Gideon replies, stepping down from the back porch. "Though both practices are equally forbidden." His gaze finds mine and I give him a small nod. I understand the risks we're taking, but fear doesn't consume me.
Dark magic carries severe penalties because it opens doorways to demonic forces. But when Satan happens to be family and someone I speak with regularly, the usual warnings don't apply to me.
"I've got everything required for the spell," I say, glancing toward the fresh deer carcass that Rhianna and Evangeline brought down earlier. My stomach turns at the thought of cutting it open and removing its organs. "Time to begin."
"Do we have something to contain it?" Tim inquires. "Maybe an old metal container?"
