Nora's POV
Instinct takes over before rational thought can intervene. My hand shoots out, telekinetic energy surging through me as I catch the falling toddler mid-air, gradually lowering his descent until he hovers mere feet from the ground below.
Perez remains paralyzed for several heartbeats, her eyes fixed on her son suspended in space. Then she launches herself from the bottom step, dropping to her knees and wrapping the child in her trembling arms.
"Ben!" The sob tears from her throat as she clutches him desperately. "Oh my god! Oh my god," she repeats like a broken prayer.
"Holy shit," Lena whispers, pressing Elodie tighter against her chest. Her complexion drains to ash, hands visibly shaking.
My pulse thunders in my ears as I release the breath trapped in my lungs.
The boy is safe, but damn, that was too close for comfort.
Perez's tear-streaked face turns upward toward me. "You saved my baby."
