Nora's POV
"A vampire?" The word leaves my lips in disbelief.
"Yeah. And wealthy enough to make it worth the risk."
I tilt my head back to study James's expression. His jaw is rigid, muscles twitching beneath his skin.
"You can't seriously think James hired someone to murder me. He shares my bed every night. If he wanted me dead, he could snap my neck while I sleep without paying a cent."
"No," Brent replies firmly. "I'm not pointing fingers at him. Actually, I can tell he genuinely loves you."
"I do love her," James declares, his arm sliding around me with obvious possession. I resist the urge to push him away and point out that Brent can't witness his territorial display.
"Oh right, I'm on speaker," Brent realizes with embarrassment. "Should've known he'd monitor every conversation you have."
"Obviously. What other information did you uncover?" I ask, dismissing his sarcastic observation.
