You remind me of myself.
Days have passed since my uncle appeared in my dreams, and Vivian Hill has settled into an unusual calm. I wonder if this peace is part of his promised gift, if he somehow pulled back the demons and distracted the angels from their pursuits.
I'm torn between guilt and gratitude for this breathing room. James and I have spent recent days selecting light fixtures for our home, simply savoring each other's presence without constant threats looming over us.
Days of tranquility have come and gone, yet Hugo's haunting words replay endlessly in my thoughts. Even if I do remind him of himself, that doesn't define my destiny.
Evil isn't in my nature. I refuse to become something dark. The hunger for ultimate power holds no appeal for me.
James pointed it out before, back when we first crossed paths and my angelic heritage remained hidden from me. I possessed the ability to make people worship me.
And I chose not to.
Surely that counts for something?
