The world felt different after that night—quieter, softer, like everything had settled into place. Yumi woke up with a strange calm in her chest, the kind that came after finally saying something you'd been holding in for far too long.
Pherrie was already awake, sitting by the window, sunlight catching in his hair. When he noticed her stirring, that familiar teasing smile appeared—but this time, it was gentler.
"Good morning, Princess," he said. "You look peaceful."
Yumi sat up slowly, hugging the blanket around her. "So do you."
He raised an eyebrow. "Careful. Compliments this early might make me unbearable."
She laughed softly, and the sound surprised her. It felt lighter than before. "You already are."
Pherrie stood and walked closer, stopping just in front of her. For once, he didn't tease immediately. He hesitated—just a second—then reached out, brushing his fingers against hers. "About what you said last night…"
Her heart skipped.
"I meant it," she said quickly. "All of it."
His smile widened, slow and genuine. "Good. Because I've been wanting to hear that for a long time."
They went out together later, walking through the quiet streets as the holiday town slowly woke up. There were no whispers today, no jealous interruptions—just the two of them, hands brushing, steps naturally falling into sync.
"You know," Pherrie said casually, "I'm still going to tease you."
Yumi glanced up at him. "I figured."
"But," he added, lowering his voice, leaning just a little closer, "now it's not just for fun. It's because you're mine… and I want you smiling like this every day."
Her cheeks warmed, but she didn't look away this time. "I don't mind," she admitted.
They stopped near the same garden where so many tense moments had happened before. It looked different now—less threatening, more peaceful.
Pherrie squeezed her hand. "No more running. No more doubt. Just us, okay?"
Yumi nodded, feeling a quiet certainty settle in her heart. "Just us."
The summer breeze passed gently between them, carrying laughter, warmth, and the promise of something real—something chosen.
And for the first time in a long while, Yumi knew she wasn't being pulled by anyone else's expectations.
She was exactly where she wanted to be.
