Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: Secrecy Prevails

He soon trailed after the man finding his sleeping quarters with the help of roaming soldiers. The room was nothing special although it was secluded from prying eyes looming in the castle allowing Liliana and Ratella to speak freely upon the balcony in his room.

Liliana sat perched at his side gazing into the expansive gallery of stars looming overhead.

Ratella covered himself with his wings sitting against the wall on the balcony staring into the moonlight flowing down from the moon.

"Liliana, what do you find so amazing about stars? I often see you gazing into them."

"I admire their beauty and how they are free floating in an endless world of darkness. Stars embody freedom, I wish to be a star floating in the cosmos."

"The endless darkness and solitude would be tortuous though."

"I never said I'd go alone. The other horsemen would accompany me along with Miss Nuit and I would like you to come with me as well."

"Why me? We've only met a couple days ago."

"You'll see but I truly hope you'll eventually find your true self and return to us."

"What do you mean by my true self? I've been Ratella Evergarden for as long as I can remember."

"I've said too much already, let us talk about something else. I'm sure all the mysteries in our mind will be revealed in time."

"What should I do if I encounter a Sin? I can't kill them, can I?"

"Of course not, if you killed them that would only help the enemy and I do not wish to see them dead even if they are a bunch of bumbling idiots. I suggest you capture them and bring them into the castle. If you can bring Lust into the castle that would do us some good."

"I'm guessing everyone in this castle's fates have already been decided. To be slaughtered by Devils."

"That is just the course of war to be slaughtered by your enemies, think nothing more of it. It is just the natural course all divine beings must follow to slay the opposing belief."

"Mhm, there is nothing to do but follow the natural course of war I suppose."

"It may be naive but you'll have an easier time dealing with your guilt and actions if you shrink your thinking upon this belief. My mind is set in that direction to avoid thinking about the horrors I've dealt to Kathoros with my own hand."

"I'll take your advice to heart but I'm not sure if I'll be able to banish the corruptive thoughts encircling in my mind. These are just consequences of being a traitor."

"You're not a traitor to Kathoros, you fight to save your master and slay the god who disguises evil as light. There is nothing more noble than leading a rebellion to shield the people from a wicked ruler."

"I appreciate your words, Liliana. Thank you, you've lifted some of the burden pressing against my skull."

"I have a question that may lift the burdens as well. Would you really be able to slay Devils now you've met one?"

"No. You are quite sweet and charming for a Devil and I sense no malice in encompassing your body. Although your outburst with Temperance did scare me a little, you looked like a real Devil." stated Ratella, chuckling to himself slightly. The man's horrific death replayed in his mind.

"I won't make any excuses for the brutality I showed with Temperance but I don't appreciate anyone making fun of my birdform. It is mirroring my devilish beauty and anyone who doesn't accept that fact will be impaled to ribbons."

"Don't worry I'm a firm believer in your beauty and charm. Your devilish beauty shines bright in your birdform too."

Liliana murmured a short response before moving a little bit closer to Ratella shielded within his wings, rubbing her face against his feathers.

"I see why Sloth fell asleep once touching your feathers; they are quite soft."

"Ha, Sloth is quite the character designating his savior as bed truly baffled me. He's quite amusing to watch."

"He's the only amusing one I'm afraid the rest are extremely weird and obnoxious."

"You're quite the character too, you know. Laughing at that man's statement about the sins also got our cover blown completely."

"Your excuse was awful by the way so you can't place the blame fully on me when your excuse was so poor. A cold, seriously?"

"Well he semi believed it but I didn't know birds couldn't get colds, is that true?"

"Of course a bird can get ill. It seems that man is only educated on tactics of war and not the anatomy of birds. But it is fortunate that he was short sighted in that moment my slip up could have had far worse consequences. For that I'm truly sorry." "Don't worry about it. I found it rather amusing to be honest."

Liliana nestled herself within his wings taking every sliver of warmth and comfort from them. Her pinkish feathers contrasting on his wings of silver and lilac looking like a ball of pink yarn drifting across them.

"Do you think Lucian could become a threat? His demeanor earlier was odd; it felt like he was threatening me."

"He is an odd character indeed. I don't have much to say about him as he has never engaged one of the Sins and is always commanding his armies from this very castle. I can't say whether he is strong or not but his lack of intervention suggests the ladder but you still mustn't drop your guard around him. Nothing is set in stone afterall."

"I won't, don't worry. Excalibur will alert me of any looming danger, it tends to scream when my life is in danger."

"That's a trusty weapon you have at your side. Not all weapons do such a thing once bonded with an angel or devil."

"Yes, I am a lucky person to wield such a weapon."

Their midnight chat soon came to an end, the two succumbing to the sleepiness late night talks bring. Upon the balcony the two slept side by side.

The bustling castle never quietened down for a moment. A war stricken castle being alive for all hours of the day was only natural. The two didn't mind the noise being mere white noise to their pursuit of blissful dreams.
