Chapter 121 - Chapter 121: Delicious Temptation

The hotel room was silent, save for the ticking of the clock and the heavy, expectant breathing of four hungry Pokémon. They were gathered around the table like a council of elders, their eyes fixed on the kitchen door.

Then, it happened. The latch clicked, the door swung open, and a wall of aroma hit the room like a physical force.

While the others managed to maintain a shred of dignity, Growlithe was a lost cause. The second the scent of roasting meat and spicy berry glaze reached his nose, he was off his cushion. His fluffy yellow tail became a rhythmic blur, thumping against everything in its path as he scrambled toward the door.

Julian walked out, holding a massive, rectangular ceramic platter with the care of a man carrying a priceless relic. Resting on the plate was the "Crown Jewel"—the giant meat bone.

The golden fat sizzled and popped, sending tiny plumes of savory steam into the air. The special glaze, a dark, rich reduction of spicy berries and onions, bubbled slightly from the residual heat of the roast. It looked less like food and more like a work of art.

Growlithe didn't care about art. He cared about the fact that his taste buds were currently screaming. He stood up on his hind legs, paws franticly scrabbling at Julian's waist, trying to pull the platter down to his level.

"Woof woof woof! (Julian! Down! Put it down! Give it to me now!)"

"Whoa! No, no, Growlithe! Hang on a second!" Julian cried out, stumbling back as he tried to keep the platter level. "You can eat once it's on the table! Stop pulling on my belt! I'm going to drop the whole thing!"

"Sylveon-fly! (Honestly, Growlithe, have some shame!)" 🎀 Sylveon sighed, though her own nose was twitching. She extended a pink-and-white ribbon, coiling it around Growlithe's midsection and hauling him back before he could tackle their Trainer.

Growlithe calmed down for exactly three seconds—just long enough for Julian to set the platter onto the center of the table with a heavy thud.

Julian struck a pose, clearing his throat for the grand reveal. "Please enjoy! This is Julian's Special Five-Flavor Aromatic Great—"

He didn't get to finish. Growlithe had already launched himself onto the chair and half-leapt onto the table. To the little Fire-type, the aroma wasn't just a smell; it was a physical hand pulling him in by the nose.

He planted one paw on the meat and the other on the bone, and then he went to work.

With the first bite, the world around Growlithe vanished. The meat juices, locked in by the slow-roasting process, exploded in his mouth, followed immediately by the sharp, invigorating kick of the spicy berries. He felt like he was standing in the middle of a volcanic eruption made of pure flavor.

"Woof... gnnn... mmmph!"

"Wait, wait! Growlithe, slow down!" Julian reached out, hovering his hands near the plate in a state of panic. "It's straight out of the oven! It's boiling hot!"

Growlithe didn't even look up. Sauce was flying in a three-inch radius around his face. "(Mmmph... s'fine... I'm a Fire-type... I eat heat for breakfast...)"

Julian sighed, a look of profound defeat crossing his face. "Well... as long as you like it. Why did you have to learn this from Floette? Can't you be a little more reserved? Like me?"

He shook his head and headed back into the kitchen. Little did he know, as soon as he turned his back, the three remaining Pokémon exchanged a look of pure irony.

"Floette-flo~ (He says that as if he didn't have his face buried in Growlithe's tail for two hours this morning,)" Floette noted, shaking her head. "(A Trainer really does get the Pokémon that matches them.)"

"Sylveon-fly. (The lack of self-awareness is truly staggering. He was a 'fluff-maniac' five hours ago, but now he's a 'refined gentleman' again? Please.)" 🎀

Togetic watched her seniors with a bead of sweat on her brow. None of you are in a position to talk, she thought. Floette is practically a vacuum when food is involved, and Sylveon spends every night trying to sneak under Julian's covers to snuggle. She shook her head. It seemed she was the only one left with any sanity in this family.

The Parade of Courses

Julian returned, this time carrying a bowl of vibrant, pink noodles. They were translucent, drizzled in a shimmering Mango-berry sauce and topped with finely diced fruit.

"And for Floette—Lin Jing's Special... Mango Aromatic..."

Whoosh.

Floette didn't wait for the plate to hit the table. She moved with a speed that rivaled an Extreme Speed attack, using her Psychic power to yank the bowl right out of Julian's hands before he could even set it down.

"...Noodles," Julian finished lamely, staring at his empty hands.

Floette was already halfway through a massive mouthful of noodles. Her eyes went wide, and her little body began to sway. She felt like she was floating in a secret garden, where every breeze carried the scent of a hundred different berries, and ripe Mangoes were practically falling into her mouth.

"I'll... I'll just get the rest then," Julian mumbled, turning back to the kitchen. "Seriously, Growlithe is picking up all your bad habits."

Finally, Julian made his last trip. He emerged carrying two plates, one in each hand, looking incredibly proud of himself.

He set the first one down in front of Sylveon: a towering stack of red and yellow pancakes, layered with a thick, glossy mixed-berry jam that looked like liquid rubies.

"For you, Sylveon! I used a blend of sweet and sour berries for the batter to give it that perfect balance. I call it the Hundred-Berry Aromatic Stack."

Then, he turned to Togetic, placing a crystal-clear, sky-blue jelly in front of her. It was shaped like an inverted bowl and shimmered under the room's lights.

"And for Togetic! I juiced the finest custard apples and silver bananas, sifting the nectar five times to ensure it was perfectly clear. This is the Celestial Fruit Pudding."

Julian stepped back, crossing his arms and waiting. This time, he had actually finished the introduction before the food disappeared.

"Fly ah~" "Togekiss~"

The two of them took their first bites. Sylveon felt herself sinking into a soft, pillowy world of sweet and tart flavors, as if the pancakes were clouds and the jam was the sunset. Togetic, meanwhile, felt a cool, refreshing breeze wash over her. It was as if she were soaring through a high-altitude orchard, the pure essence of the fruit energizing her very soul.

The Peaceful Aftermath

Julian pulled up a chair and sat down, resting his chin on his palm. The frantic energy of the morning and the shopping trip had finally settled into a beautiful, quiet hum.

He watched Growlithe gnaw on the bone with primal joy, Floette slurping her noodles with closed eyes, Sylveon delicately savoring her pancakes, and Togetic nibbling on her pudding like it was a treasure.

The room was filled with the sounds of happy eating—the clink of silverware, the occasional satisfied bark, and the rustle of wings.

"You know," Julian whispered, his voice soft and full of affection. "I think I'm going to like this 'no secrets' thing. No more excuses, no more hiding... just us."

He reached out and gently smoothed a stray hair on Growlithe's back, and this time, he didn't look away or blush. He just smiled.

The sun began to set over Solaceon Town, painting the hotel room in shades of deep amber and violet. The feast was a success, the family was whole, and for the first time in a long time, Julian felt like he was exactly where he was supposed to be.
