Chapter 2 - Chapter 02

A person usually feels comfort in their home, but here, things were different.

The place of study had become the true refuge of safety and peace.

The vacation was finally over, and students returned to university.

Our protagonists woke up with souls burning with excitement—escaping the burrow of suffering, humiliation, and endless screams.

At Linda's place

Linda's maid:

"Miss Linda… what? Are you already awake? That's very strange. It's not like you to wake up this early."

Linda:

"Yes, you idiot. It's the first day back at university after a long and boring vacation. Finally, I'm getting away from all the chaos that happens in this house every single day."

Maid:

"Oh… I see. Then please don't forget to have breakfast; it's ready on the table. Miss, you look absolutely beautiful. You grow more radiant every time I see you."

Linda wore a knee-length brown dress mixed with black, her smooth medium-length brown hair falling neatly around her shoulders. She paired it with black high heels and very light makeup.

She replied shyly, as she always did whenever she received compliments—never quite getting used to them.

Linda:

"Oh, really? Thank you. I'm lucky to have you by my side. You always bring joy to my heart every morning and give me strength to get through my day.

By the way… are they downstairs? I don't want to run into them and ruin my mood with their nonsense."

Maid:

"No, they left a short while ago. You can relax, Miss."

Hearing this, Linda smiled softly, feeling great relief—especially grateful that she wouldn't see them today.

At Jane's place

Jane's father:

"Hey, boy! Are you still asleep? Wake up! You'll be late for university. Do you want to get expelled on your first day or what? Haha! I bet you won't manage to wake up today of all days!"

He wasn't prepared for the reply that came.

Jane:

"I'm right here. Can't you see me, or have you become old, senile, and blind too?

And don't worry—I won't be late today."

He started with a sarcastic tone, then quickly shifted to drama, trying to soften the frown that formed on his father's face—avoiding punishment, especially on this day.

Father:

"Since when did you become this rude? And wait—when did you wake up? When did you sit here? Have you turned into a ghost without me knowing?"

Jane:

"Because today is my day of freedom from you all. First day back at university after a boring vacation.

A ghost? Whatever. I'm leaving."

Jane rushed out. Every girl who saw him couldn't help but stare—his charm was undeniable.

Blue jeans, a black T-shirt topped with an open white shirt, blue-and-white sneakers, and hair brushed back, revealing his fair forehead.

At John's place

John:

"Ah… finally. This awful prison will end, and life will return to this poor soul that suffered throughout this bitter vacation.

Wait… I hear someone downstairs. It must be Mom coming to wake me up. I hope she doesn't start again."

John's mother:

"Son, wake up—you'll be late for university. Weren't you excited yesterday? What's wrong today?"

She opened the door mid-sentence and froze—his room was empty.

Mother:

"Son? Are you in the bathroom? Did you really wake up early without me? How strange…"

John:

"Mom, I'm grown now. Stop worrying. I'll be downstairs in a few minutes. Of course I woke up early—it's my first day at university."

Mother:

"That's my energetic son, always the first to wake up! Or… are you a vampire and I didn't know? You never sleep!"

John:

"Mom! First I'm a koala, then a book monster, and now a vampire? Please stop watching fantasy movies!"

Mother:

"Alright, my spoiled child. Hurry up."

John:

"That's all I needed—'spoiled child'. I wonder what you'll call me next… My head hurts."

He left, praying she wouldn't invent a new nickname when he returned.

He wore a white high-neck T-shirt, black jeans, matching sneakers, and neatly styled hair brushed upward—giving him a truly attractive look.

At Dina's place

Dina:

"Wow… am I dreaming? I'll finally meet my friends—especially…"

She was interrupted by her mother.

Mother:

"You're talking to yourself again… Wait—are you awake and ready this early? What happened?"

(She wondered if her daughter was dating someone.)

Dina immediately understood her thoughts.

Dina:

"Mom… stop it. It's the first day of university. Isn't that why you came to wake me up?"

Mother:

"Oh, right. Hurry up and come down for breakfast."

Dina:

"I'm coming! I can't wait anymore—finally, my day of freedom has arrived!"

She spoke with overwhelming joy, jumping like a child as she left her room.

She wore a long pink dress decorated with butterflies and flowers, medium heels, and short wavy hair—giving her a sweet appearance.

At Sean's place

Sean:

"Time for fun! Goodbye to this unbearable hell of a house. University is the best thing in existence. I don't mind sacrificing sleep—anything to escape this rotten grave. Haha!"

Servant:

"Sir, it's time—"

He stopped, shocked to see Sean already awake and nearly flying with excitement.

Servant:

"Breakfast is ready, sir. Come quickly… you know what might happen otherwise."

Sean:

"Are they at the table? How annoying. Still, it doesn't matter—university awaits."

He smiled mischievously.

Sean finished breakfast under the amazed gazes of the servants.

Classic trousers, a fitted blazer over a white V-neck T-shirt, neatly styled hair, and elegant black-and-white shoes—his beauty was undeniable.

At Sirene's place

Maid:

"Miss Sirene, wake up. You'll be late for university."

How could she wake easily when her body was covered in bleeding wounds and exhaustion from severe beatings?

Sirene:

"Ah… you're right."

She struggled to stand. The maid supported her to the bathroom, helping her refresh and dress—hoping she could gather enough energy for the day.

Sirene:

"Maybe… I'll get some rest today."

(She smiled weakly.)

Maid:

"Try to enjoy yourself. Today you'll meet your close friends. Don't think about anything else—just relax."

She spoke, hoping to ease her pain, unaware of the depth of suffering Sirene hid behind silence.

Sirene wore loose light-yellow pants, a black T-shirt, white sneakers, and a light black leather jacket.

Everyone headed to university early—yet surprisingly, Sirene arrived last, for the first time ever.

Only Dina understood the reason, though she knew only part of the truth.

Suddenly, Sirene's voice echoed through the campus:

Sirene:

"Yay! Wow! I'm back, my paradise!"

She laughed and shouted like a child—pretending nothing had happened.

Her friends stared at her in surprise, unaware that her childish behavior was merely a curtain hiding a painful truth:

a girl who grew up too fast, tasted violence too early, and learned silence as survival.

John:

"The first girl ever to arrive late on campus. What happened? Tell the truth."

She almost spoke—but didn't.

Dina:

"You stayed up watching an action movie again, didn't you? When will you grow up?"

She smiled sadly, unaware of the real pain.

Jane:

"Let's go inside before we get punished. Then answer our questions."

Linda:

"Alright, Mr. Disciplined. No need to shout—I don't want to go deaf."

Sean:

"This is fun. I missed this atmosphere."

John:

"The sweetest person talking about sweetness—it's you, especially when you blush!"

Linda:

"Look how red she got—so cute!"

Suddenly, Jane screamed.

Jane:

"Aaah! My back! It's broken!"

They all turned.

Everyone:

"What's wrong?!"

Sirene had jumped onto Jane's back—and fallen asleep instantly from exhaustion.

John:

"That's not like her… something's wrong."

Sean:

"Good thing it wasn't me. But John's right—this isn't normal."

Dina:

"Let's go to class now."

Jane:

"How am I supposed to go with a sleeping child on my back?!"

Sean:

"I'll carry her. We're in the same class—I'll make an excuse for her."

Linda:

"I'll help. She's not okay… the professor will understand."

They agreed and went their separate ways.

What will happen next, I wonder?
