After the twins were asleep, Asher found Kael in the kitchen, doing dishes.
"You don't have to do that," Asher said.
"I made dinner. I clean up. That's the rule."
"Since when?"
"Since now."
Asher grabbed a towel and started drying.
They worked in comfortable silence.
"Can I ask you something?" Kael said.
"Sure."
"Earlier, when you asked why I'm doing all this. Did my answer... did it help?"
Asher was quiet for a moment. "Yes. And no."
"What do you mean?"
"I believe that you mean it. Right now, in this moment, you mean every word. But Kael, people change. Feelings change. What if in six months or a year, you wake up and realize this isn't what you want?"
"That won't happen."
"You don't know that."
