On the other side of the pier, Steve finally tracked down the figure that had disappeared earlier. He was curious—if it really was her, things were about to get interesting.
On the beach stood a woman with short green hair, her back to Steve and arms stretched out. Her dark green nails glowed faintly as a soft fluorescent light flickered at her fingertips.
With a strong pull of her hands, several iron crates floated ashore.
Soon after, a group of people arrived, led by Bullseye.
Bullseye was a killer trained by the Rockefeller family, currently working under Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin.
Kingpin was no ordinary crime lord—he was a villain with both intellect and brute strength, much like the Green Goblin. His gang controlled drugs, gambling, human trafficking, nightclubs, and the docks in Hell's Kitchen.
Unlike most gang leaders, Kingpin had ambitions beyond crime—he wanted to legitimize himself by running for political office.
New York's underworld was full of gangs, big and small. Those who managed to rise to the top were either ruthless or just lucky stepping stones for others.
"Ms. Lorna, thank you for your help. Here's your payment," Bullseye said, clapping his hands. One of his men handed him a metal briefcase.
The woman in front of him—fair-skinned and confident—was Lorna Dane, better known as Polaris.
And if anything made her stand out, it was her father—Erik Lehnsherr, the mighty Magneto himself.
Polaris opened the briefcase and checked the contents with a calm expression.
"Where's Kingpin?" she asked.
"The boss is busy, so I'm handling the deal," Bullseye replied, eyeing her greedily.
She was wearing a black suit jacket over a white blouse, her slim figure accentuated by fitted pants and high heels. The flash of her green manicure made her look both dangerous and irresistible.
But when she noticed the counterfeit bills inside, her expression turned cold. She slammed the briefcase shut and threw it back at him.
"How dare you pay me with fake money?"
Bullseye raised his hand and fired a small electric dart. The shock sent Polaris collapsing to the ground, her emerald eyes filled with fury.
"Hey, don't blame me," Bullseye sneered. "Blame the high bidder! But don't worry, sweetheart—before I hand you over, I'll make sure you understand a man's true pleasure."
His men laughed crudely.
"Boss, leave some for us too!"
"Haha, everyone gets a turn!"
Polaris's eyes widened in disbelief. She cursed herself for coming alone—she should have brought backup.
Steve watched from a distance, analyzing the situation. His system prompt confirmed it: Magneto's daughter, Polaris Lorna Dane.
She looked just as striking as he imagined—fierce, proud, and dangerous, like a wildcat waiting to strike.
According to the data, Bullseye had been hired by the Rockefeller family to capture Polaris alive and deliver her to the military's Weapon X program.
Steve's lips curved into a cold smile. "Another hero saving the damsel," he muttered.
But then he spotted someone lurking nearby.
[Eclipse – Polaris's boyfriend, attempting a rescue.]
Steve's expression darkened with a calculating gleam. He pulled out his phone and sent a message, summoning a S.H.I.E.L.D. special ops unit for backup.
Then he drew his pistol—modified to fire .45 caliber rounds, the same type used by Kingpin's men.
Just as Bullseye prepared to act, a sudden blast of energy struck one of his men, dropping him instantly.
"Over there! Shoot!" Bullseye ordered.
Gunfire erupted toward the reeds, where the attack had come from.
Steve circled around quietly, locking his sights on the source of the beam.
Bang!
A single suppressed shot echoed. A bullet tore through Eclipse's skull, killing him instantly before he even realized what had happened.
Steve lowered his weapon, expression calm. That scumbag doesn't deserve her.
Eclipse's betrayal in another timeline still disgusted him—abandoning Polaris when she was pregnant.
If I take care of him now, Steve thought coldly, she'll never have to suffer that pain.
This was justice in his eyes—a mercy killing that spared her future misery.
Moments later, Steve's shield sliced through the air, slamming into a gunman's spine with brutal force. It ricocheted between several others before returning to his hand.
Then he charged forward, firing with precise, serum-enhanced accuracy.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Each shot was a perfect headshot.
"C-Captain America!" Bullseye stammered, stepping back in fear.
He had once been ordered to assassinate Steve Rogers, but facing him in person was an entirely different matter. The man's aura alone was suffocating.
Before Bullseye could decide whether to fight or flee, one of his henchmen dropped dead with a hole in his forehead.
Polaris, who had been ready to take her own life rather than be humiliated, froze in shock.
There he was—Captain America, standing tall between her and the gangsters, his shield glinting under the moonlight.
At her most desperate moment, a hero had appeared.
Her heart raced uncontrollably. Just seeing his back filled her with an unfamiliar sense of safety.
This is Captain America, she thought. The symbol of courage. The soul of justice.
In that instant, she forgot everything else—the betrayal, the danger, even her fallen boyfriend.
The truth of what happened would remain buried.
Because as long as Steve Rogers stayed silent…
no one would ever know what he had done.
