Queensboro Bridge.
Mary Jane shivered as the cold wind brushed against her face. When she opened her eyes, thousands of city lights twinkled in the distance.
Where was she? Wasn't she supposed to be at the party?
Before she could make sense of it, a green shadow appeared behind her. The Green Goblin grabbed her by the neck and lifted her high into the air.
"Ah! Help! Ahhh!"
In his other hand, the Green Goblin held a thick steel cable — the other end attached to a cable car filled with over a dozen screaming children.
Below them, the river stretched out endlessly. A fall from that height — over thirty meters — was as good as death.
"Hehehe, stop screaming, Miss Mary Jane. Do you think Spider-Man will come?"
The Green Goblin's distorted voice oozed madness. He had just received a billion dollars, stabilizing his company's finances. This was only the first step down his dark path. His plan was simple: lure Spider-Man here and make him fall.
After learning Spider-Man's true identity — Peter Parker — from his son Harry, the Green Goblin had discovered Peter's deep love for Mary Jane.
Now, he was going to use that love against him.
To corrupt a hero, you must first shatter his heart.
Reporters from the Daily Bugle rushed to the bridge, snapping frantic photos.
A supervillain attack — front-page news!
The Green Goblin stood menacingly in midair, clutching Mary Jane with one hand and holding the cable car with the other — a feat no ordinary man could achieve.
In the distance, a red-and-blue figure swung rapidly through the air, spider silk glinting in the night sky.
Spider-Man landed on the bridge, eyes fixed on the villain.
"What are you doing?! Don't hurt the children!"
"Hey, Spider-Man! Aren't you supposed to be a hero? Let's see how heroic you really are."
"The trolley problem," the Goblin said, his voice dripping with mockery.
Spider-Man's heart sank. "Don't tell me—"
"You guessed it!"
The Green Goblin suddenly released both the girl and the cable car.
Mary Jane screamed as she plummeted toward the river. The cable car, loaded with terrified children, fell in the opposite direction.
Left or right — Mary Jane or the children.
No matter what Spider-Man chose, someone would die.
If he saved the children, he would lose the woman he loved.
If he saved Mary Jane, he would have to watch innocent children die.
And once that happened, the Green Goblin would turn the world against him, using guilt to destroy the hero's spirit.
At that instant, a shield flew out of nowhere — striking the Green Goblin and knocking him off balance.
"Kid, go save the children! Leave the lady to me!"
Captain America — Steve Rogers — stood on the bridge, his blue combat suit gleaming under the city lights. Retrieving his shield, he leaped off the bridge. Using the recoil to accelerate, he caught Mary Jane midair.
Channeling his Qi and combat skills, he gently slowed their descent until they landed safely on a bridge pier.
The Green Goblin stared in disbelief. "What kind of science is that?!"
Spider-Man let out a breath of relief, grabbing the cable car's rope with one hand and firing spider silk with the other to secure it.
Splash!
The Green Goblin crashed into the river.
Spider-Man dangled above the water, holding both ropes tightly, unable to climb up or move down.
"Kid! Tie the cable car off there and signal a nearby boat to take the kids!" Steve called out.
Mary Jane, shaken but unharmed, looked up at Steve with wide eyes. Her heart fluttered.
"Stop right there. This isn't the time to repay a favor," Steve said flatly.
He had no interest in her. Sure, Mary Jane was pretty, but compared to the many beautiful women he'd met, she was just ordinary.
In truth, Steve hadn't even wanted to meet this version of Spider-Man. Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man meant one thing — an old Aunt May.
But when Edith's database confirmed that another Spider-Man — with a much younger, beautiful Aunt May — existed, Steve immediately decided that he had to meet that one.
Mary Jane's face flushed, misinterpreting his words. "He said not now… does that mean later? The Captain wants to kiss me?"
Steve sighed internally. Ridiculous. She wasn't his type — too materialistic, not nearly as stunning or charming as Gwen Stacy.
The Green Goblin suddenly shot out of the water, jumping back onto his glider.
"Hey, Spider-Man! Still playing the hero?"
He hurled several pumpkin bombs straight toward Spider-Man, who narrowly dodged them. But one bomb was attached to a thread — it ricocheted back toward the bridge.
Boom!
The explosion tore through the structure, killing several people instantly.
The Goblin's laughter echoed through the chaos.
"Hahaha! Spider-Man, this is your fault!"
Spider-Man's face twisted in horror.
Steve's instincts flared — something was wrong. He grabbed Mary Jane and threw her onto a passing yacht before leaping back up using his Qi.
Flames erupted across the bridge, engulfing a fuel tanker that now threatened to explode.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in New York.
Betty Ross had not gone to see Bruce Banner. She was now Steve Rogers' woman and naturally kept her distance from Bruce.
Still, as Steve's friend, she genuinely hoped Banner could be cured. After sending Steve a message, she went to meet her best friend and former classmate — Dr. Helen Cho — who was preparing to start her own biotech company.
The two women chatted late into the evening. But as they got into their car to return home, a green shadow descended from above.
The Green Goblin had found them.
He recognized Betty instantly — the daughter of General Ross. Killing her would send a powerful message to the U.S. military.
He ripped open the car door with a sharp grin.
"Two beauties," he sneered, pulling out a dagger. "Time to die."
"Get lost!" Betty shouted, reaching for a stun gun.
But the Green Goblin was faster. The dagger shot forward, glinting in the dark — aimed straight at her heart.
Bang!
A Vibranium shield flew in from nowhere, striking the Goblin's wrist and deflecting the attack. The force of the impact pushed him back several steps.
"Forget about the shield! I can catch bullets with my hands!" the Goblin snarled arrogantly.
Steve Rogers stepped forward, eyes cold. "Then try this."
He channeled Qi into his legs and launched forward like lightning, stomping down hard on the Goblin's toes.
The villain howled in pain, just as Steve retrieved his shield and delivered a devastating punch.
The impact sent the Green Goblin crashing into a fuel tanker — his body denting the metal like a wrecking ball.
Betty and Helen stood frozen, completely awestruck.
Who wouldn't fall for a man that strong?
