It was said that they would come later, but Steve arrived at the villa just as the sun was about to set.
"I found out the truth, but I hesitated to tell you because you and he are both my friends," Steve said.
Before Tony could ask what it was, Steve handed him a videotape.
After a moment of hesitation, Tony played it.
The footage showed a car accident that happened in 1991.
Howard and Maria Stark were in the car when a man with a robotic arm brutally broke their necks. Before leaving, a nearby camera captured his face.
Tony fell silent after watching. He remembered Steve once mentioning that he wanted to investigate the case but was stopped. Now, Steve had returned with the truth.
Tony's expression darkened as rage and sorrow welled up inside him. He had to avenge his parents.
"Who is he?" Tony demanded.
"The Winter Soldier—Bucky Barnes. He was brainwashed and controlled by Hydra, injected with a replica Super Soldier Serum. He's also a super soldier," Steve explained, picking up a glass of Tony's best red wine.
As Steve described his past with Bucky, the things he had discovered, and the Winter Soldier's missions, Tony listened in silence, his anger mixed with disappointment.
"So the murderer is your old comrade. You're here to plead for him, right?" Tony asked coldly.
"No," Steve replied. "I think he should pay the price. If you want to kill him, that's your right. But I want to find the people behind it—the ones who used him like a weapon. That kind of mind control is terrifying and disgusting.
Before you go after them, though, come to me. I'll cure your palladium poisoning first. Don't die before you take your revenge.
If you really see me as a friend, promise me one thing."
Steve's tone was serious. The tension in the room made it sound like he was about to ask Tony to spare Bucky.
Tony frowned. "You want me to spare him?"
"No," Steve said with a straight face. "If you write a will, make me your heir. You're probably going to die anyway, so better your brother inherits it than some stranger."
He hooked an arm around Tony's shoulder, clinked his glass against Tony's, and downed the drink with deep emotion.
Tony: ???
Wait—shouldn't you be begging me to forgive your friend? Why are you after my inheritance?!
"Any questions?" Steve asked sincerely.
Tony nearly choked on his drink. "Get out! Get out! Get out!"
He laughed despite himself, his anger fading at Steve's absurd joke.
"Who said I'm going to die? I'm not planning to! Damn it, I was supposed to go to Morocco for a car race, but something came up. Next time, if you fight the Hulk, call me—I want to see that up close!"
Steve chuckled and swirled his glass. "Once I cure your palladium poisoning, you'll stop looking for ways to die."
"Let's drop that topic," Tony said quickly. "You free tonight? There's a university student party. Want to come? Lots of gorgeous girls there!"
Tony brightened instantly. Pepper was gone, and he was letting loose again—changing women more often than socks.
"Sure," Steve said with a grin. "Can't say no to college girls."
He had recovered fully by now. Before coming over, he'd trained Nissa and Wei Lian personally. Nissa had shown impressive endurance this time—so much so that Steve himself almost needed the wall for support afterward.
The dark energy had restored his strength and heightened his senses, making him more formidable than ever.
"When you find Hydra, call me," Tony said as he drove. "I'll personally take revenge for my parents."
After cooling down, Tony realized that Bucky wasn't truly to blame. If Bucky sincerely apologized, Tony might even forgive him.
"Alright," Steve said casually. "When the Winter Soldier returns from Wakanda, I'll bring him to you."
"Wakanda?" Tony asked, intrigued.
"I'll introduce you when the time's right," Steve replied. "Those people rarely show themselves—but their women? They're something else. Absolutely stunning."
Steve wasn't prejudiced against anyone, but he had to admit—Wakandan women were breathtaking.
"Wow," Tony grinned. "Didn't know you liked them dark-skinned. You've got... unique tastes!"
"It's the same everywhere," Steve replied smoothly. "Thanks for being so understanding."
Tony: ???
Why does that sound like I'm the weird one here?!
The so-called "student party" wasn't held at a university or villa—it was in a high-end nightclub.
Men in suits, women in elegant gowns, and young girls in casual outfits filled the dance floor.
Tony spotted a familiar face—he had seen the man's file in the S.H.I.E.L.D. database before.
Mutants.
Mutants were humans who had awakened genetic powers.
In the narrow sense, it referred to those born with the X-gene. In the broad sense, beings like the Hulk, the Abomination, or even the Green Goblin could be seen as mutants—humans altered by science or circumstance.
"Tony! Long time no see—you've been making headlines lately!"
A handsome blond man approached, wearing a suit jacket and carrying a calm, gentle aura.
"Haha, of course! I'm Iron Man!" Tony said proudly, his chest puffed up.
Flamboyant, flashy, and fabulously rich—that was Tony Stark.
The blond man smiled and extended his hand to Steve.
"Hello, I'm Charles. Nice to meet you, Captain Rogers."
Even the homeless knew the name Captain America.
Steve recognized him instantly—Professor Charles Xavier, the leader of the X-Men. Back then, Charles still had hair and his movie-star looks.
"Who's this?" Tony asked, noticing a stunning blonde beside him.
She had blue eyes, a soft round face, red lips, and wore a short blue-and-black patterned dress that hugged her figure perfectly.
"This is Captain America, Steve Rogers," Charles said with a smile. "You used to love reading stories about him, remember?
Oh, Captain—this is my sister, Raven."
Raven Darkhölme. Mystique.
Charles smiled politely, but there was a hint of calculation in his eyes. He knew Raven admired him deeply—but he had always seen her as a sister. Her natural blue skin and scales made him uncomfortable, even with the lights off.
He'd heard Steve Rogers had several girlfriends. Maybe introducing Mystique to him would be… mutually beneficial.
"Hello, I'm Steve," Rogers said warmly. "No need to call me 'Captain.' I'm just an old relic trying to adapt to modern life."
He spoke humbly, deliberately downplaying himself.
Sure enough, Raven's expression softened.
"No, you're a hero," she said sincerely. "Charles and I both loved reading about you.
Nice to meet you—just call me Raven!"
Mystique extended her hand, her smile radiant. She didn't feel particularly moved, but there was something about Steve Rogers that drew her in—a quiet confidence she couldn't ignore.
