Chapter 71: September 3rd

September 3rd.

A rumor spread through Yorknew City like wildfire.

It claimed that the game Greed Island contained a secret ability to restore youth.

Ronin saw the news online in his hotel suite.

He wasn't interested.

Or rather, he had little interest in the game itself.

The only thing in Greed Island that appealed to him were the monsters in the wilderness—perfect training dummies.

However, he had surpassed the level where fighting weak monsters was useful. Kurapika and Neon, on the other hand, could benefit greatly from grinding there.

As for the cards and items? Ronin couldn't think of anything he desperately needed.

He yawned.

Fusing two pairs of Scarlet Eyes hadn't instantly awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan.

He felt he was on the verge of unlocking it, but something was missing. A catalyst.

In the Naruto manga, the Mangekyō awakened through the trauma of loss—specifically, the death of a loved one.

If he had to follow those rules, did he need someone close to him to die?

Ronin scratched his head, annoyed.

If the awakening criteria were strict, did that also mean he would suffer the blindness side effect upon overuse?

However, the Scarlet Eyes also triggered based on intense emotion. Maybe the next evolution required an even more potent emotional surge?

Just like how the Troupe tortured the Kurtas to make their eyes shine the brightest red before killing them.

The intel he got from Weasley about Pairo also leaned toward this theory.

Ronin planned to secure the Scarlet Eyes from the Southernpiece Auction House as well. The auction was on September 5th.

He had plenty of money. Even though he hadn't fought much recently, Miria's investments had grown his capital to over 10 Billion Jenny.

Miria truly lived up to her title as a Golden Agent.

"Miria asked if you need more Nen," Kurapika tossed a can of soda to Ronin.

"Not for now," Ronin popped the tab. "But you guys can rent some from her. It's useful."

"If we can't separate the Troupe members, attacking them is too dangerous. Even with your Four Violet Flames Formation, the risk is too high," Kurapika sighed. "In this situation, it's best to test the waters using the traps I've already set."

"Sounds good," Ronin agreed.

A diamond-shaped mark had appeared on his forehead.

It was the Strength of a Hundred Seal (Yin Seal).

The principle was simple: store Chakra over time in the seal. When needed, release the seal to access a massive reserve.

Combined with Tsunade's Creation Rebirth and Strength of a Hundred Technique, it granted high-speed regeneration and enhanced strength in combat.

Masters could even use the low-output regulation of the seal to maintain youth and peak physical condition.

Ronin had only just unlocked it, so the stored Chakra was negligible. He couldn't rely on it for a burst yet.

Currently, the Troupe was moving as a tight unit. Fighting them head-on would be foolish. Even if he killed a few with surprise tactics, he would put himself in grave danger.

Since he killed Uvogin, the pressure was on the Troupe, not him.

Tonight might be an opportunity.

The Ten Dons had spent a fortune to hire assassins from the Zoldyck Family.

Ronin planned to go and see if he could pick off a straggler. If not, he wouldn't force it.

He also wanted to see if Chrollo would try the same tactic as in the manga: hiring the Zoldycks to kill the Ten Dons to stop the attacks on the Troupe.

If Chrollo tried that, he would be disappointed.

Because Raymond wouldn't die.

The current Raymond was Ronin's Shadow Clone. Even if one was killed, he could instantly replace him with another.

At 7:00 PM, massive numbers of Mafia gathered at the Cemetery Building.

Every car was checked. Everyone was armed.

In a room on the upper floors, Ronin appeared, disguised as Kakashi Hatake using Transformation Jutsu.

White hair, face mask, short blade on his back, mercenary attire.

There were others in the room.

Silva Zoldyck, with his long silver hair, and Zeno Zoldyck, his father.

Their presence matched the manga's timeline.

However, among the other four hired assassins, there was a surprise.

A man with tear and star face paint, fiery red hair swept back, and a distinct magician's outfit adorned with card suits.

Hisoka Morrow.

Ronin recognized him instantly.

Since Ronin killed Omokage, Hisoka hadn't joined the Phantom Troupe to replace him.

But seeing him here as a hired assassin was unexpected.

The other three were:

A young man with a mohawk and tattoos, looking like a street thug.

A middle-aged man in mechanic's overalls carrying a wrench.

A beautiful woman with wavy red hair, a mole under her left eye, dressed in a sporty outfit that looked ready for a night run or a night club.

None of them were weak.

Just observing their Ten, Ronin could tell they were far stronger than the Shadow Beasts.
