"Kakay!"
The moment Kaelis opened the door to Ezra's room, Lior's cheerful voice echoed from inside.
Before Kaelis could even properly step in, he heard the familiar sound of tiny footsteps rapidly thumping across the floor.
He knew immediately what was about to happen.
So, without thinking, he opened his arms in anticipation.
Fortunately, he did.
A small little boy crashed straight into him without the slightest intention of slowing down.
Kaelis instinctively caught him and lifted him into his arms with surprising ease.
'Huh.'
For some reason, the feeling made something inside him stir.
'After remembering my mother…this reminds me of how I used to run to her, knowing she would always catch me.'
He never questioned it back then.
He simply knew she would be there.
Now it was Lior running toward him with the same certainty.
And somehow…
Kaelis had expected it too.
