Hundred's of thousands will die if he gets away. Tonight's the night we end this chase. I can't go back home if I fail.
With how much is riding on this, why is it just Hewlett and I handling this? "Hewlett...", he turns to me from a seat at the Omach bus station under a large tree, "I've been meaning to ask you something".
As if putting his thoughts aside, his attention completely shifts to me, "Yeah? What do you want to ask?", Hewlett answers.
"I know you and me almost died the last time we fought Benson", I take a deep breath, trying my best not to remember, "the psycho black lycan but, I've been wondering why he didn't kill me when he had the chance to. Do you know why?".
The expression on his face change, "He was called back by a witch. Not the one The Faith is looking for but a second one", He stands from his seat, "I am sure you are not pitying him but do not worry about the witch, she will not show as long as I am here".
Why does he sound confidently sad? Maybe I asked something that touched a nerve. "Thanks", I answer back in a low tone.
Hewlett smiles, "Well! It is now night time", he looks towards the town. "I know the perfect place to lure them in".
"Them?!". Does he mean Benson and the witch he just told me about? He seemed bummed talking about it so I can't ask if that's what he means.
Hewlett, widens his eyes at me. What am I not getting. "What is the date today?", he asks. Well that's random.
I left on the twenty sixth so today's ,"It's the twenty ninth", I weakly answer in realization. My mind has been so exhausted from his lectures on how to use my powers. I can feel my breathe picking up.
I stumble back. I look at my hands violently shaking.
I look back to Hewlett. "Why didn't you tell me!?".
"Because you are not affected by the full moon!". He walks closer, "The Faith members of Omach draw the werewolves and lycans to a stadium not far from here", he tosses me a meat skewer, "We will not be alone Yori. And I got that from a travelling vendor when we were on the bus. I was going to give it to you when this was all over but it looks like you need it now".
I look at the skewer. It smells amazing but who gives food to someone feeling nervous? "I know about me not being affected by it", I take a bite from the skewer, "It's more about the village I was guarding when it comes to a full moon night", my heart doesn't look like it'll slow down. "Lets just keep going", I can't go around telling strangers everything about myself.
"Sure", Hewlett answers in an acknowledging tone.
We walk between buildings, cross roads that seem even busier the darker it gets and finally reach the stadium. Dozens of men in robes stand guard around the outside of the stadium, I can sense them but only when I focus.
Hewlett speaks to one of them who stands at the entrance, "Evening".
"Evening", The man answers back. Tall, bald and clad in a grey robe stitched with dark blue vines, "But what is he doing here?!". I quickly look down. The amount of killing intent from him nearly made me turn from instinct alone. I...I can't even move! Was this a trap for me by Hewlett-"Haha! You actually didn't turn?", he looks back at Hewlett whilst patting my back, "You have yourself a good lycan here". Hewlett looks just as uncomfortable as me. How did he dissipate all that hatred?! He just flipped the entire mood on its head in milliseconds.
"Yeah he is a one of a kind", Hewlett answers in an uncomfortable giggle.
"Though he is on the chubby side", My eyes widen out of control, I don't think I'm fat. "Hahaha! He's one of a kind!", His enthusiasm vanishes into another heavy fog of malice, "Make sure you bring down that berserker black lycan", Even Hewlett stops in his tracks, "This goes for you too Hewlett".
"Understood...", Hewlett begins to walk, "Brother Musunga". Immediately after mentioning his name, I feel his malice seep back in without a trace and quickly follow behind Hewlett. I don't want to be near him.
In the middle of the stadium are cattle, sheep and goats in a pen. I've never heard about livestock drawing in werewolves. Then again I don't know enough.
Hewlett begins to say, "The werewolves are going to be drawn here by the scent of livestock", he sighs, "The black lycan will be here", Hewlett stops, "Because he is here to kill you Yori".
Huh! "That doesn't make any sense, I know that I almost killed," I look around and lower my voice, "I know that I almost killed him but he doesn't look like the type to hold a grudge about stuff like that". Knowing that something as dangerous as him is out to get me and just me is driving me crazy!
"Calm down! The reason he wants to kill you is to make sure you do not get any stronger than you are, especially with you being on The Faith's side," Hewlett points out in frustration. Well that makes more sense.
I look at the full moon my eyes and ears honing and fine tuning, hearing everything even further than I ever have. Back in kopumula I wasn't even allowed to be out on a full moon but here "Werewolves! They're coming in packs!" Here, I feel alive.
