I got dressed with one thing on my mind.
I had made Asher a promise and I didn't make promises I didn't keep. Not anymore and definitely not to him.
I had told him I would handle Voss and that was exactly what I was going to do.
I left my room and moved through the corridor with the particular focused energy of someone who had already decided how a conversation was going to end before it began.
The academy was going about its morning around me. Students moving between classes. The distant sound of training from the east wing. The ordinary noise of an institution that ran on schedule and hierarchy and the careful maintenance of both.
I had broken every schedule and hierarchy in this building at some point. Today was not going to be an exception.
Headmaster Voss's office sat at the end of the administrative wing on the third floor, behind a door that the entire student body of Stone Claw Academy understood as a door you knocked on.
You knocked.
