REED
The door clicked shut behind Asher and I lasted three seconds before I let it out. The sound that came out of me was something between a laugh and a noise I would take to my grave, and I pressed both hands over my mouth and spun away from the door because if Asher was still within earshot I was going to lose every single piece of ground I had spent the last hour gaining.
He had said yes.
I dropped onto the bed, fell backward and stared at the ceiling with a smile that had no audience and felt completely different from every smile I had ever performed for one. Something warm, and uncontrolled spreading through my chest in a way I had no previous reference point for.
This was joy. Actual, uncomplicated, and embarrassing joy.
