"Hey, we don't do anything like that against civilians!" Cyclops was outraged.

"So transporting corpses, weapons, and illegally crossing the border is for the benefit of the civilian population? And that's just one episode we know for a fact and even participated in!" I happily slapped the armrests of the chair. "Gorgeous! We have terrorist-pacifists here! A rare breed!"

"Terrorists?" Rogue exhaled.

"It is not quite as your friend said," the elderly mutant in the wheelchair sighed sadly, "although, I am forced to admit, from a formal point of view, it may look somewhat unsightly."

He is genuinely unflappable. And I thought Wolverine was the stoic one.

"Oh, don't think I'm judging or trying to offend you," I smiled placatingly. "I don't mind. After all, I am the God of Mischief, Deception, and Wicked Pranks, and what could be more mischievous than a crowd of trained and armed super-soldiers uncontrolled by the authorities just a couple of hundred kilometers from Washington? Besides, the girls look incomparable in that uniform," I threw a meaningful glance at Storm.

"I do not wish to see my students as soldiers," the telepath objected seriously. "That is precisely why some of them still have to do what they do. To protect the rest, both from ordinary people and from the likes of Magneto."

"Explain what the hell this is," Logan asked wearily.

He was clearly irritated by the "stupid name" of the potential enemy, my clowning around, and this whole situation in general.

But it was okay; the man continued to hold on and Overcome.

"One of the most powerful mutants, plotting to unleash a war between mutants and the rest of humanity. His power is the manipulation of metals, and besides that, he leads his own organization of radical mutants, of which Sabretooth was a part."

"Sabretooth, Cyclops, Storm…" Logan looked at me askance. "Loki…"

"Hey, that's my real name! And anyway, you call yourself Wolverine."

"…now Magneto," the regenerator stoically ignored my cry from the soul. "Do you have a pretentious nickname too? 'Cart' or something like that?"

Logan clearly intended to say something like 'I've had enough, I'm leaving this madhouse,'but the professor simply looked at him, and the mutant cut himself off mid-sentence. He even looked around hunted.

"…Fine, you convinced me."

"Hmm, these aren't the droids you're looking for?" I nodded toward Logan.

"No," the professor smiled with the corners of his lips. "I merely showed that I, too, have a gift. From a young age, I realized I could influence people's minds, make them think and act as I wished. At the same time, I realized how great the responsibility must be for the possessor of such a gift."

"At seventeen, I met a boy named Erik Lehnsherr. He also had a gift; he could create powerful magnetic fields of a very specific configuration and thus manipulate metals."

"Together we began to search for other mutants and defend our rights, but… he became disillusioned with this path and decided to fight humanity rather than try to coexist. That was when he became known as Magneto."

"And why would he send his goon after us?" Wolverine tilted his head. Judging by his expression, he had resigned himself and decided to take the information seriously.

"That is what I want to find out. Give me three days. Until then, I invite you to stay as guests in this house."

"Fine…" Logan answered after some thought. "Loki, Rogue?"

"Uhh… can I enroll here? You know, to study?" The girl didn't deliberate long.

"Of course, we will always welcome other mutants," the professor smiled much more openly and warmly now.

"Well, I have nowhere else to go and it makes no difference, so I might as well stay with you. Besides, I would like to discuss a few issues individually later." I felt a gentle touch on my mind.

Apparently, Charles wasn't opposed to discussing topics of interest tet-a-tet even in a crowd.

"No, no," as expected, mental magic allowed me to effortlessly push the visitor out before he even reached the first line of permanent defense, the Labyrinth of Reflections.

"Let's do without that. Believe me, it will be better for us to communicate in normal language."

A certain interest lit up in Xavier's eyes, as well as in Jean Grey's.

Who, by the way, while not a "crocodile," was, like Rogue, at best a cute girl, but certainly not the stunning femme fatale she's depicted as in comics and cartoons.

Although, by local standards, maybe she really is in the planet's Top 10 beauties.

Who knows how bad things are here on Earth?

Me If the local Sif, a literal Goddess and the premier beauty of Asgard, didn't even get decent boobs, what can one expect from Midgard?

Ah, I'm already tired of whining that there seems to be only one beautiful woman in this entire verse. And I won't be surprised if she turns out to be a lesbian in the end.

"Very well," Xavier nodded with a placating half-smile. "Your rooms will be prepared shortly. In the meantime, I suggest we proceed to dinner. You must all be hungry after the flight."

Logan and I turned out to be understanding people and started to get up. Rogue followed suit, and soon the entire crowd left the office, leaving the professor alone. As he managed to mention in passing, he had already eaten dinner.

However, the silence in the office didn't last long. After waiting about a minute, Charles, pointedly looking away, spoke quietly:

"So, what did you want to talk about?"

"Impressive," I smiled from the armchair, dispelling the illusion. "We've interacted for less than an hour, yet you were already able to calculate my move and realized I would stay for a talk."

"Actually, I wasn't sure," the telepath answered the smile, meeting my gaze. "But if you had truly left, no one would have known about my little embarrassment."

"Reasonable," I was starting to like this conversation more and more. "But back to business. You're right, I have things to discuss with you. But the question is, are you ready to listen? Because despite all your cordiality, something tells me you still don't believe the name I gave is real."
