"Do you have chocolate chip cookies at your school?"
"Hmm…" Ha! I got him! "I think there might be a few packs in the kitchen," the mutant replied cautiously.
"Excellent," I stood up from the chair and extended my hand to Charles. "I am your man! If, of course, you are interested in working with an eccentric divine entity," I added the important clarification.
"You know, this isn't exactly how I imagined a meeting with a God…" the telepath said, shaking my hand.
"Thought it would be some majestic and insanely wise being, since he's been smoking up the sky for several dozen centuries, if not millennia?"
"Something like that," the mutant nodded.
"Well," I shrugged, returning to the chair, "wisdom doesn't necessarily have to come packaged with solemnity. And just between us, Professor, what people understand by the term 'God' today arose under the influence of Abrahamic religions."
"And there you have such a mess of throwing concepts like the Creator, the Universal Absolute, God, and half a dozen entities of different orders into one pile… I simply can't imagine how you'll explain yourselves when you properly enter space. You're guaranteed at least five galactic wars just based on the insult to various monarchical personages."
"That is… not the kind of information I wanted to hear before bed," the man tried to turn the topic into a joke, somewhat slowly but quite consciously.
"Don't worry, you still have about five hundred years," I settled back into the chair. "You'll have time to survive worse things."
"That's encouraging," the telepath smiled. "But, Loki, allow me to ask, what do you want? Why did you come to Earth? A desire to kill boredom and a pack of cookies seem strange for someone who bears the title of God of Magic… and the others." Have I mentioned that Charles is simply an arch-tactful person? I double down on that statement.
"Fine, candor for candor," I adjusted the lapels of my coat. "I don't like this universe. It irritates me and pisses me off, which makes me utterly insufferable. Nevertheless, my intellectual development surpasses that of a loaf of bread, so I'm not going to try to bend it to my will, rebuild it, or improve it. I'm simply not interested. And therefore… I want to leave."
"Is there really nothing in our world that evokes a positive response in you?" The professor's gaze changed slightly, along with the tone and timbre of his voice. Why would he, oh!
"Haha," I laughed good-naturedly. "No, you misunderstood me. I wasn't thinking of committing suicide. I simply really want to leave this universe. There are far more worlds than one, and I'm not talking about Midgard, Asgard, Jotunheim, or Helheim right now. There are other realities where other versions of us live, or where we don't exist in those stories for some reason. And there are those that live by completely different laws, with different constants and laws of being. And I want to see that!"
"Very interesting, but then I don't understand why you agreed to help me?" Charles was perplexed.
"It's very simple. I know for a fact that travel between parallel universes is possible, but I don't know the method yet. Searching for it will take time and resources. I have both, but I would like to have… mmm… a base where I can feel comfortable and not fear that a delicate and complex experiment will be ruined because some idiot with a hammer, along with a gang of similar idiots, barges in with an offer to 'drop those boring books and go on a dashing hunt,' or a 'glorious feast,' or a 'good battle'…" I confess, that hit a nerve. Even if it wasn't mine… I remember it.
"And since fate brought us together, why not set up such a base here? Judging by what I saw downstairs, you aren't strangers to progress, which means you won't refuse to get your hands on some Asgardian technology. It's not hard for me to share knowledge, just as I think it won't be hard for you to help find materials for my work."
"Plus, here with you, it will be much easier for me to get acquainted with modern human achievements than in the forests of Canada. As I've managed to verify, you have advanced seriously since the last time I took an interest in Midgard's affairs. And even if Earth technology is terribly," I emphasized the word with my voice and expression, "backward, due to a completely different development path from Asgard, interesting solutions can be found in it."
"Well then," Charles smiled, "I have no objections. Welcome." He took the dagger that had been lying on the table and, rolling closer, handed it back to me. "Stay as long as you need."
"Thank you," accepting the weapon, I hid it in the pocket dimension. "You too, if you need anything, just ask." I stood up from the chair. "And now I must take my leave, the cookie supplies in the kitchen won't raid themselves."
"Oh, well then I dare not detain you," the telepath laughed, "although I wouldn't mind talking more and learning something about Asgard."
"I think we'll have plenty of time," I nodded. "Good night, Professor."
"Good night, Loki. And one small request."
"Hmm?" I stopped near the door.
"Don't play with Storm's feelings. She has had a hard life, and she will take cruel jokes painfully."
"Wouldn't dream of it," I looked honestly at the telepath.

I met the morning of the next day in the kitchen with a laptop (the X-Men are very hospitable), finishing my eighth cup of cocoa (good cocoa here) and finishing off my third pack of cookies (I must admit, Americans know their stuff when it comes to chocolate chip cookies).
I had absolutely no desire to sleep in the room assigned to me. The idea of reading in the library met serious resistance from the dwindling cocoa supply and my laziness to drag myself back and forth across the mansion.
And I was karmically doomed to solitude, so everything was fine here.
On the internet, I mostly searched for data on the world and iconic figures to definitively establish which historical period I had landed in.
