"But… but… there are more and more mutants every year, they even say so on the news. Doesn't that mean that in a few years there will be no ordinary people left, or we will become the majority? Why fight then?"
"Do you really believe that?" Magneto smiled patronizingly.
"Believe that they will let us? Believe me, I know humans. I know their nature. Even when there were only a few of us across entire continents, those in power feared us and did everything to either control us or drive us so deep underground that we dared not stick our noses out. The very thought that individuals might exist capable of disregarding all their armies and systems of state control over society terrifies them."
"And when humans are afraid, they attack. As soon as mutants truly step out of the realm of urban legends, tabloid tales, and obscure scientific theories, they will begin to hunt us down and destroy us. And they have already begun to act," Lehnsherr leaned forward, noticing how his words affected the girl.
"It took only a dozen young mutants whose powers were revealed, innocent teenagers like you, and hearings on the Mandatory Registration Act are already underway in the Senate. Today they will pass a law, tomorrow they will create a special police force for mutant affairs, and the day after tomorrow, concentration camps." Rogue's eyes filled more and more with fear and understanding.
"I have already been through this," he continued, experiencing a grim satisfaction that his words had found a path to the listener's heart. "I remember how it was in Germany in the thirties, and I will not allow it to be repeated on a global scale… Even if I have to resort to extreme measures for this."
With that, the conversation died down. An oppressive silence, broken only by the sound of the working helicopter blades, descended on the cabin, and Rogue no longer wanted to ask anything.
Mystique was about to report in more detail, telling what shouldn't be entrusted to a phone, but the older mutant stopped her with a short gesture, there was no need for the girl to know that her "rejection" by the other inhabitants of the school and Charles himself was merely a staged performance.
And so, an hour and a half later, they arrived and landed at the base.
"We're getting out," Toad jumped out of the pilot's seat and opened the helicopter door for the passengers.
"Where is everyone?" the girl looked around fearfully, scanning the empty landing pad.
"Everyone's right here!" the pilot grinned.
"Toad," Magneto barked at his subordinate who was getting too chatty.
"Is that so? Wonderful!" The fear vanished from Rogue's face as if it had never been there.
But Magneto didn't have time to notice anything else, let alone act. A heavy blow to his helmet, as if Sabretooth had walloped him, came as a complete surprise, and then darkness fell.

"One down!" Watching Erik crumple like a sack at my feet, I actually worried I might have overdone it and the mutant wouldn't wake up.
However, that didn't stop me from grabbing the guy called Toad by the head and yanking him toward the helicopter.
The pilot's head met the aircraft's plating with a hollow thud, and the mutant slumped helplessly to the ground.
"What?!" Mystique managed to recoil, her face twisting in bewildered surprise. "Who are you?"
"Oh, just a humble traveler with immodest goals," I smiled at the girl, shedding the Rogue illusion. "And you shouldn't try to kick me in the ear during an introductory speech, that's very uncultured!"
I ducked and struck at the shapeshifter's supporting leg, but she evidently possessed enhanced physical characteristics beyond just shapeshifting.
At any rate, I doubt an ordinary human could execute a backflip while standing on one leg, in the split second between striking an opponent and said opponent's counterstrike.
"Hss-s-s…" Landing on all fours in an interesting pose, Mystique bared her teeth and hissed.
"Your Parseltongue has a terrible accent," I stood up straight and, never ceasing to smile charmingly, took a step toward her, subtly releasing magic.
"Maybe you'll be a good girl and just let yourself be tied up? I promise I'll be gentle!"
In response, demonstrating flexibility incredible even for an Asgardian, she tried to kidney-punch me with her feet, twisting her body like a spring in one motion and literally firing herself at me, transferring the momentum into a strike from the very tips of her toes on opposite limbs.
I wouldn't have had time to dodge; I would have had to block. However, I didn't intend to dance with the shapeshifter for long, so her strike passed through an illusion, while my real body was already bringing a fist down on her head.
The disappearance of her opponent, coinciding with an unexpected attack, caught Mystique off guard, but didn't take her out of the game.
As I suspected, the girl's body was tougher than a human's, because the effort calculated based on the condition of an ordinary mortal of her build only made the blue-skinned woman go "woozy."
But her resistance didn't last long anyway, as I had no intention of giving her time or making small talk, and quickly "calmed" the stunned woman.
"Hmm, won't feminists and others declare war on me? Hitting a woman, in the face, three times…" I mused to the room with a dose of self-irony. "Although, wait a minute… I am an evil God!"
On that life-affirming revelation, I began tying up the prisoners, first removing Magneto's helmet and placing it in my pocket dimension.
Naturally, I couldn't get rid of all the metal in the vicinity, and the island where we landed was literally stuffed with it, possibly intentionally.
But without his telepathy-blocking helmet, Erik Lehnsherr could be neutralized by a single thought from Charles, who was already flying here with his team, guided in real-time by my illusion.
Nevertheless, I didn't plan on giving him the chance to wake up before then, so I placed mental charms on the mutants to reinforce their unconscious state.
There was a temptation to quietly snap Toad's neck, I didn't like him, but on the other hand, this was the coolest Toad of all his incarnations I'd ever heard of, and he hadn't managed to do anything to me personally yet, so the guy got lucky, I decided to give him a chance.
And after all the prisoners were securely packed (well, as securely as a woman capable of arbitrarily changing her body proportions can be packed), I proceeded to the most interesting part, viewing Magneto's memories.
