(Mirael's Pov)
(Continuation of Mirael's flashback 9yrs ago– Age 5)
The bad guy with the knife stalks toward Koda, but the one with the bleeding wrist screams, "Forget the dog! Catch the demon kid first!"
My whole body turns to ice. They are looking at me now, and Koda is still struggling to get up. I scramble for a stone and throw it with all my might, but it just bounces off the man's chest. He doesn't even flinch. "Now, now," he sneers, his voice oily and terrifying. "Don't make us look like the bad guys. Come with us and you'll get to eat. You want to eat, don't you?"
I stumble back, my legs shaking so hard I can barely stand. The man with the knife circles around, the blade glinting in the dark. Just as he reaches out his big, dirty hand to grab me, a shadow lunges from the ground.
Koda!
With a final burst of strength, he digs his big paws into the man's shoulders and sinks his teeth deep into the bad guy's neck.
"AHHHHAAAA!!!" the man shrieks, dropping the knife.
