Chapter 8 - Becoming Stronger II

He pointed accusingly at Alan, his voice thick with bitterness and alcohol.

Alan tilted his head slightly and replied,

"I don't know what you're talking about. I'm leaving. There's clearly nothing I can learn from you."

He turned to leave.

"Stop right there!" Khan shouted.

Alan paused and looked back."What do you want?"

"You claimed you are my ancestor Albantino's successor," Khan said angrily. "If that's true, then come with me and prove it."

"There's nothing to gain from this," Alan replied calmly. "Even if I prove it to you, so what? It's not like you can teach me anything in your current state."

Just as Alan turned away again, Khan spoke.

"I will give you the legacy left by my ancestor."

"Albantino's legacy?" Alan looked back sharply as Khan nodded.

"If you can use his legacy, then it means you are his successor. If not, you're a fake," Khan said before turning and walking upstairs.

"Come with me," he added.

Alan followed him. Outwardly, his expression was calm, but inwardly he was grinning.

Hehe… I knew this method would work, Alan thought as they climbed the stairs.

At the top, Khan removed a cloth from an armor stand, revealing a set of battle armor. Beside it rested a greatsword colored in dark gold and black.

"These are the things left behind by my ancestor," Khan said coldly. "If you are truly his successor, then surely you can use them."

"It's true," Alan nodded as he grasped the greatsword.

"They were made by Albantino himself."

Alan used appraisal on it

"Y-y-you really are Albantino's successor…!"

Khan said, his voice trembling as he stared at Dainsleif, its color still shifting.

He remembered the story passed down through his family.

One day, a hero would arrive—

a man capable of wielding Dainsleif.

But there was another part of the legend, one that few remembered.

It said that one day, the one who carried the legacy of their great ancestor, Albantino, would arrive as well.

And on that day…

Dainsleif would reveal its true self.

"C-can I see it?" Khan asked tremblingly, staring at the transformed Dainsleif, which now looked divine—just like the mythical, penned descriptions of the original Dainsleif in legends.

Alan nodded.

"Here," he said, handing it over.

Khan took it with shaky hands. His breath caught.

"This is real… there's no illusion," Khan whispered.

Alan rolled his eyes.

"Did you think I made an illusion just to deceive you?" he asked flatly.

Khan felt ashamed and quickly lowered his head.

"Forgive me. It's just… the Mero Company has been pressuring me constantly, even though I told them I wasn't going to make another item anytime soon," Khan said, scratching the back of his head awkwardly.

Alan nodded as Khan returned the sword to him.

"Take it. It was always yours. I was only keeping it for you," Khan said.

Alan accepted the blade. He could wield it easily now—the user restriction had changed, and it recognized him as its true master.

"Let's see the armor next," Alan mumbled.

Khan nodded. "You can take that as well. Unlike the sword, there's no secret to the armor."

Alan examined the set for a moment, then shook his head.

"It's more than a hundred levels above me. I can't use it yet."

"I'm still too weak to wear it," Alan said honestly, then added, "I'll take it after I become strong enough."

Khan nodded in agreement.
