Chapter 459 - Chapter 459: Sarutobi Mirai

Chapter 459: Sarutobi Mirai

"You jerk! Aren't you supposed to be stupid and completely unable to use genjutsu? Why didn't my genjutsu work on you at all?"

Feeling the chill of the fist resting against her forehead and hearing Saitama's words, Sarutobi Mirai's face flushed bright red with frustration.

She genuinely couldn't wrap her head around it. Under her mother's guidance, her genjutsu was already exceptionally sharp—so why couldn't she beat Saitama?

By all accounts, the guy couldn't grasp genjutsu or ninjutsu to save his life.

They were in the third grade now—third grade!

Back when Mirai was in the first grade, she had lost to Saitama countless times.

She had assumed her effort just wasn't enough back then, telling herself she would turn the tables once second grade rolled around.

To her dismay, when second grade came and she faced Saitama again, she had mastered a wide array of genjutsu, yet none of it worked against him.

Now in third grade, her genjutsu remained entirely useless.

Even though intelligence reports at school suggested he might possess a natural constitution immune to genjutsu, she still found it hard to believe.

How could anyone in the world be naturally immune to genjutsu?

If that were possible, what was the point of genjutsu in the first place?

"Haha, you mean that?" Saitama grinned wide, showing his teeth. "My dad said my brain is so dense it just squashes genjutsu flat, so ordinary genjutsu won't work on me."

He added cheerfully, "You're already super impressive, though—you actually made me use a Normal Punch."

Hearing those words, Mirai's face flushed even redder.

What do you mean, 'Normal Punch'?! How is a fist wrapped in a howling gale a 'normal punch'?!

It was a total humiliation. Sooner or later, she was going to beat Saitama.

If genjutsu didn't work, she'd use ninjutsu; if ninjutsu failed, she'd rely on taijutsu.

After all, while genjutsu was her greatest strength, her other disciplines were far from weak.

She made defeating Saitama her primary goal.

Looking at Mirai's bright red face, Saitama casually slung an arm around her shoulder. "Don't be mad. My dad said if a girl gets upset, you should buy her something to eat. I'll treat you to lunch."

Saying that, he dragged her along with brute strength.

Feeling his muscular arm locked over her shoulder, Mirai's entire face burned hot, steam practically rising from the top of her head.

"You jerk! Didn't your dad ever teach you that you can't just go around grabbing girls?!"

"Nope! My dad said I should hang out with girls as much as possible."

Saitama looked a bit puzzled.

Dad definitely didn't tell me not to touch them.

"I don't want to eat anything! Let go of me!" Mirai felt like dying of embarrassment under the strange, lingering gazes of the surrounding students.

What is with this guy?! How can anyone be this dense?!

"No way, you're still mad," Saitama insisted, strictly sticking to his father's advice. "Dad said if a girl is mad, you have to buy her food."

Mirai gritted her teeth. "I'm not mad anymore, okay?! Let go!"

"Do you think I'm stupid?" Saitama tilted his head, eyeing her crimson face. "Your whole face is red, so you're definitely still mad. I have to buy you food. Don't worry, the head chef at the Ninja Academy cafeteria is an employee from my family's company—the food is top-tier."

Seeing her bright red face, he concluded she was still angry, so he couldn't possibly let her go.

"AAAAHHH~ I'm going crazy~!"

Mirai shrieked inwardly. Facing the gaze of everyone around them, she felt like she was going crazy—this was pure social death!

She could already envision the rumors spreading through the classroom in no time:

Sarutobi Mirai went on a date with that dummy.

And she ate a ton of food.

He even had his arm wrapped around her the whole time.

Good grief...

Just the thought of that scenario filled her with despair.

Suddenly...

A familiar silhouette appeared in her line of sight.

"Lord Hokage, save me! I've been taken hostage!"

Catching sight of that figure like a drowning person grabbing a lifeline, Mirai shouted at once.

Hearing her voice, Naruto turned around. Seeing Mirai and Saitama, he was just about to greet them when a swarm of other students rushed forward, clamoring to play with him.

They instantly swarmed Naruto from all sides.

Naruto had no choice but to shift his attention to greeting the surrounding kids.

As for Mirai and Saitama, it looked to him like nothing more than ordinary childhood horsing around—just like when he was young.

Total despair.

Mirai's lifeline was tossed right out the window.

She had no choice but to let her feet drag along with Saitama's pace.

Saitama heard her shout as well and commented, "Who? Who'd dare take you hostage? I'll beat him up! Dad said anyone who takes hostages is definitely bad news and has zero manners."

Then he looked over at Naruto, who was currently swarmed by students in the distance.

"Oh, it's Uncle Naruto being taken hostage by the students. They really have zero manners."

"..."

Countless curses flashed through Mirai's mind.

You bald jerk! You don't have a single hair on your head, and you don't have a grain of sense in your brain either! You're talking about yourself!

Resigned to her fate, she gave up talking altogether, her fists clenched tight.

Observing from a distance as Saitama dragged his daughter around, Asuma's eyebrows twitched uncontrollably.

"Tobitake Tonbo, you bastard... So you've got your eyes on my daughter!"

He had the distinct, sickening feeling that a stray dog was eyeing his prized cabbage.

He had only intended to drop by today to check on how his daughter was doing at school, never expecting to witness this exact scene.

CRACK~

His knuckles popped loudly under his clenching grip.

No way. I have to go pick a fight with Tobitake Tonbo right now.

Fuming with rage, Asuma whipped his head around, not daring to look in his daughter's direction any longer, and stormed straight off toward Tonbo's home.

...

"Dad... do you maybe want to take a break?"

Tonbo watched as his father tirelessly wove bamboo crafts, hanging the finished pieces all over the house.

It looked as though he intended to cover every inch of wall space with them.

Tobitake Tosei replied, "What do you know? Back in the day, I raised you on this exact craft! Can't I indulge in a little nostalgia now? Besides, I'm retired and done working at the company, so I have to find something to keep my hands busy.

I'm not like that Ichiraku guy, glued to his kitchen non-stop."

"Why don't you practice ninjutsu instead?" Tonbo suggested. "Didn't you used to enjoy that? Who knows, maybe you could even score a Jonin rank."

It was just so unsightly.

Making one or two bamboo crafts was fine, but weaving them from morning till night and plastering them all over the house was a bit much.

Looking around, endless bamboo crafts hung in every direction—densely packed, creating a distinctly bizarre atmosphere.

"Tobitake Tonbo! Get out here!"

Just then, a familiar voice bellowed into Tonbo's ears.

Tonbo swept his sensory perception outward and realized it was Asuma.

What is he doing here?

And he seems completely furious. Did Kara pull something again?

That shouldn't be possible. The more conspicuous Outer members of Kara were wiped out recently. Only their Inner core members remain, while most of the Outer operatives have gone into deep cover. They shouldn't be making any moves right now.

BANG!

Tonbo used ninjutsu to swing open the front door, letting Asuma march inside to see what was going on.

Even if something serious had happened, shouldn't Naruto have sent a messenger instead? Why would a daughter-obsessed father like Asuma have time for this?

"Trench Knife!"

Without warning, Asuma swung a wind-infused fist straight at him.

SWISH!

Tonbo grabbed his father, shifting back a considerable distance in an instant.

"Hey! If you want to spar, just say so! Why throw a punch right out of the gate?" Tonbo said, completely speechless.

Tobitake Tosei added, "Exactly! Where are your manners?!"

Hearing that, Asuma roared in anger, "You damn Tonbo! Did you teach your son to pull this kind of stunt?!"

He shoved a photograph forward, showing Saitama dragging Mirai along with his arm wrapped tightly around her.
