Chapter 1 - End of an Eternity

I didn't have powers. I didn't have any extraordinary abilities. But I had my family. And the time we spent together… it felt like an eternity. Every laugh, every argument, every quiet moment in our home—it was mine. Safe. Ordinary. Precious.

The grocery bags weighed on our arms, but Billy and Julia were laughing as we walked through the front door. We were joking around, bumping into each other, teasing over the smallest things. The world felt normal, mundane, perfect.

That illusion shattered the moment the door opened.

My mother rushed toward me, her eyes wide with urgency. Before I could react, she pressed a syringe into my arm. Confusion and fear froze me in place, my heartbeat hammering in my ears.

From the shadows stepped a man. Long black hair framed his pale face, and his eyes were darker than any night I had ever seen. There was a light, teasing smile on his lips, almost playful. Almost.

But the aura around him was anything but.

He had Element X, and I knew instinctively that he was a predator.

"Mte," my mother whispered, as if naming him could somehow stop what was coming.

Julia screamed, rushing forward to push him away. She tried to protect our mother, tried to stop him. But he was too fast. Too strong.

With a sickening crack, he broke Julia's back. And without hesitation, he ended my mother's life.

I froze. My chest burned. I wanted to scream, to run, to stop him—but before I could move, the world shifted around me.

I was gone. Teleported.

When I opened my eyes, I found myself at the border of the country. The air was colder here. The ground rough beneath my knees. And there, weak and barely conscious, lay my father.

"Dad!" I ran to him, panic rising. "What happened?!"

His hand trembled as he pulled out a syringe. "I… I don't have long. I've been poisoned," he rasped. "Leave… this country. Become strong. Join a guild… survive."

I shook, tears blurring my vision. "Why… why? Tell me… tell me everything!"

His hand fell. His eyes closed.

I cradled him, my body shaking, my grief raw and suffocating. I had no powers, no protection, only rage and sorrow. Slowly, I stood, wiped my tears, and stepped toward the next country, knowing that my life had just begun.

It seemed… this was the end of an eternity.
