Kelvin's breath caught. His heart thumped hard against his rib cage at the pending question.
It was the last of what he wanted to hear from Sonia since she woke up and it had landed so hard and unexpected.
Kelvin slowly balled his hand into a fist. He had always been wary of this moment and the thought she would one day ask for the truth even when he doesn't have it to give had always kept him on edge.
And even now, it still left him unsettled as she met her stare head-on. His thoughts raced fast with questions.
