Chapter 53 - Proper Excuse

Sonia stepped back just before his fingers could touch her, creating a small but deliberate distance between them.

The movement was subtle, almost unnoticeable to an outsider, but to Kelvin, it carried weight.

Kelvin's brow furrowed slightly at her action, but he chose not to press further.

Instead, he slowly lowered his hand, his expression smoothing into something neutral as he gave a small shrug, masking whatever flicker of disappointment that had crossed his face.

Sonia waved her hand dismissively, "It's okay," she said lightly, her tone casual. "I didn't think you would still be at home."

Kelvin nodded. He had always gone out early, and today was meant to be no exception. His routine rarely changed.

He would have left long ago. He had every intention to. But something, something intangible had held him back.

Whether it was a habit he had developed from taking care of her and checking on her condition.
