Fred rubbed his chin thoughtfully, his gaze fixed on Sonia's face as though he were trying to solve a puzzle.
The room had been quiet for several seconds, but suddenly, his eyes narrowed slightly. "I think..." he began slowly. "I think she is awake."
The atmosphere inside the room instantly froze. Joel blinked in surprise, while Adams turned sharply toward Fred.
"What?" Adams asked. His brows furrowed deeply. "You think she is awake? Then why is she still lying there like that?"
Fred did not even allow him to finish speaking. "I think she woke up some time ago."
This time, Sonia's heart nearly stopped beating. Panic surged through her chest like a tidal wave.
For one terrifying moment, countless questions exploded inside her mind. 'How did he know?' 'Had I exposed myself somehow?' 'Did I move?'
'Wait! Did I make a sound?' Her thoughts raced wildly. Yet she dared not ask any of those questions aloud.
Doing so would immediately expose her.
