Gavin's harsh words hit Ivy like a physical blow, nearly knocking her unconscious. Tears poured down her cheeks as she stared at him through bloodshot eyes. "You... what is it you're really after?"
"Just some spending money, that's all. You're about to marry into a marquis family, and you're still being cheap?" Gavin's sneer was ugly as he thrust his palm toward her. "Give me the cash and I'll disappear."
Panicking, Ivy yanked several silver pieces from her sleeve and shoved them at him. "Here, take everything and get out."
Gavin hefted the silver, his grin turning cruel. "This pathetic amount? What do you take me for, some street beggar?"
Disgusted by his shamelessness, Peggy jumped between them and screamed, "That's plenty! A normal family could survive two years on that. How can you still complain?"
Gavin's hand cracked across Peggy's cheek. He jabbed his finger at her face and roared, "You're nothing but a slave, yet you dare raise your voice to me? I'm her blood!"
