All of the units were standing at the waiting room, the atmosphere was loud and many of the students were looking at the poster where it shows who will they fight against. Unit 3 was gathered together to discuss on what they are fighting and maybe even complain a little, Rika was sighing like an idiot and she is the one who starts whining:
– This isn't faaiiirrrrrrr.... like, we need to fight two times while unit 2 fights only once? Why are they the ones laying down while we tire ourselves up like this?
– I understand your frustration, Rika, but we need to be strong and face it, it is just how the rules are, we can't do anything about itt... Chiyo says as she makes a sympathetic look and looks over at her.
Etsuko looks laid-back as usual, having a smirk tugging at the corner of her lips.
– I don't know but fighting two men one after the other seems fun to me, just good for me to humiliate them..
– Etsuko...? Chiyo was confused, and she tilts her head towards the blonde girl, You'd always complain about these types of situations... you have changed I see...
– Hell yeah I did change... I was a sloth so I had to change that... and protect you guys whenever it is needed...
Chiyo smiles warmly, places a hand over her own lips and mutters affectionately:
– That is sweet of you to say...
Meanwhile there was Saburo, ridiculously trembling in fear as he looks at the poster and sees that he needs to fight Rika.
– I-I wi-will need to f-fight... g-ghost gi-girl... he slowly looks towards Rika, and as he looks a bit, she glances back, and he laughably stares away in fear.
Rika loved how he was getting intimidated by her so she smiles, decides to walk close to him from behind and then she slowly whispers:
– You and me will have so much fuunnn~...
Once he hears that, he starts running everywhere in the room just to get away from her, and Rika giggles in amusement.
Later, The speaker above the poster starts to tall with a firm voice, it was Ms Tomoko's voice.
– Alright, students! Welcome to The Varyashim Exams, you may have read the poster and that means I don't think I need to explain it to you again about how this works. There will be 5 ––arenas for each set of rivals, and there you will have each of you a supervisor, you may start fighting.
And each set of warriors walk to the rings.
The Unit 3 students had to fight against the Unit 1 students; who came victorious had to fight the students of Unit 2, and who lost failed to exceed in the increase of their ranks. The ranks of students depends on the letter, which goes from Rank D (the lowest) to Rank A+ (the highest), there is also a rank S which depends on how unique their special energy is and how well the students manage to complete their duties. The reward for the winners in both of the rounds were the increase in ranks, from rank D to rank B, and for the winners of only one round, they would get their rank ascended from D to C.
Though, due to Kowamaru's absence in the fourth arena, the two students assigned to fight him had to battle each other instead. The winner was granted Rank C, however, to ensure fairness, they must pass a physical evaluation before the promotion is officially confirmed.
In the first arena there was Chiyo, who starts her first battle against Niyo Seiichi with a smile on her face, the guy who she was fighting against had blonde hair, having a black hat on, a smug look, a red jacket and black baggy pants, and he was carrying a flying skate along him which would turn into any weapon he'd like.
Niyo hopes on the skate and flies with speed towards Chiyo, but Chiyo quickly leans her hand towards him and creates a glass with her Shenqi, in which it shocks Niyo and causes him to shatter through the sheet, Chiyo gets into a fighting position and prepares to punch him, using her inner energy to ignite flames around her fist in order to rise the impact of the attack, but unfortunately Niyo dodges her punch and teleports behind her by using his own Shenqi and attempting an attack, but Chiyo quickly dodges, and leans her hand again towards him and slides her hand, manipulating his soul by connecting her Shenqi with his own and slamming him by a wall.
Niyo slowly extends his left hand below his right one, and with the right hand he clenches his fist but raises the pinky finger, attempting to use a water technique, but Chiyo raises her hand and uses the first two fingers and uses her energy to create a glass bubble around her, the waves of water clashing towards her but having no effect as she walks towards Niyo.
With another swing of her hand she creates crystal bullets that pins him by the wall and then she attempts another flame punch, and she succeeds this time, making him faint.
The supervisor looks at them and sighs.
– The winner of the first round in Arena 1 was won by Igarashi Chiyo, raising her from Rank D to Rank C, He says with a laid-back firm tone.
In the meantime, on the third Arena, there was Etsuko beating the hell out of Kai Moe, a boy with brown hair and blue eyes, blue pants and a blue uniform and beneath was a white shirt. She didn't even give him time to attack, she punches him three times in the face, turns around and knocks him down with one final kick in the gut. She scoffs afterwards and states:
– Weak. I need more.
– Heh, what a kid, the supervisor chuckles, looking at Kai with a smug smirk. The winner of this round in Arena 3 is Nagamine Etsuko!
For the time being, Saburo was complaining im fear as he was facing Rika, making her giggle more:
– Oh come on! Like why do I need to fight her out of all the students! She has that crazy hypnotizing stare, and she always seems to have fun while tormenting m—
– Enough, kid! This is an exam, not a damm carnival fest! You either fight her or leave! The supervisor of the second arena exclaims with an annoyed tone.
– B-But... he looks at her in fear as she raises her club and summons a dark, small and cute little spirit that floats in front of her, making the scene even funnier as he starts squirming outrageously.
As Rika sends the entity at him, he starts running away around the ring until he slips and falls down like an idiot, and the entity bites him gently by the leg, holding him, while Rika crouches and stands in front of him while laughing adorably.
Saburo, due to nerves, raises his hand and quickly shouts:
– I GIVE UP, SHE IS BETTER THAN ME!
The supervisor looks annoyed by everything that happened, but he isn't surprised, they are kids after all.
– Alright, kid... Nagamine Rika is the winner of the first round of the Second Arena.
– Yayyy! Rika says, and then helps up Saburo, lifting him up.
In the 4th Arena there was Orochi sliding through Oe Saki's river technique, being talented in understanding flow. Oe Saki was a girl with dark-chocolate hair, having a long ponytail and wearing a white traditional kimono.
As Orochi slides through the water with elegance, he reaches her swiftly and turns his club into a hammer and smacks her away but she manages to ease the impact of the fall by creating a water shield behind her, and once she hits the wall, she regains her composure and turns that water shield into an ice spear.
Since they were at a distance, Orochi goes into a defensive position, expecting anything and coming up with a plan, and before he tries to, Saki throws the spear towards him but Orochi smirks, "that is such a stupid predictable move it isn't even laughable at this point..." he thinks as he dodges the spear with ease.
But to his surprise, Saki snaps her fingers and changes place with the spear behind him and kicks him right in the jaw, knocking him down.
The supervisor of the 4th arena smirks and then declares that Oe Saki is the winner of the first round in the arena. Orochi smiles and wipes the blood from his lips and acknowledges her strength.
– Impressive. Nice strategic move, you really got me there.
After the first rounds end, the speaker declares a one hour break before the start of the second rounds, and the students go outside, taking a fresh breathe of air, the winners getting ready for the last stage.
