Chapter 17 - The Wo Shing General Assembly!

When Lin Yao received the news, he was still at the sauna, watching several newly recruited girls being trained in massage techniques.

He was just about to "get off work" and study Cantonese slang with Xiao Fuxing afterward.

Fat Wah… was killed?

Who did it?

Big D? Impossible!

The scene at Uncle Deng's place during the daytime meeting had already made it clear—

Big D wouldn't make a move.

An old enemy?

That didn't seem likely either. Lin Yao had never heard of Fat Wah having any blood-deep vendettas.

On Hong Kong Island, ordinary underworld grudges usually didn't end in murder.

Then… could it be?

A name flashed through Lin Yao's mind, and his heart jolted slightly.

That very night, Uncle Deng and the others were released.

The reason was simple: all four of them had solid alibis.

Not only were they not at the scene,

they had all been at home during that time period,

with indirect corroboration from various police internal channels.

...

The next morning, at nine o'clock, Lin Yao had just woken up.

The phone by his bed rang—it was Uncle Deng's trusted aide, Uncle Chi.

"A-Yao, put everything else aside for now.

Come to headquarters at ten-thirty for a meeting."

Uncle Chi's voice was blunt and to the point.

Lin Yao immediately asked,

"Uncle Chi… about my boss—do you know who did it?"

His tone was full of "righteous indignation."

"How would I know?" Uncle Chi replied.

"Uncle Deng called everyone together precisely because of this—

and by the way, we'll also be deciding the candidate for your hall's new boss."

Uncle Chi paused, then lowered his voice:

"There's something I'll let you know—but don't spread it."

"Go ahead, Uncle Chi. I know what to do."

"A while back, you pushed Hung Yi to the brink of collapse—very impressive."

"Uncle Deng is inclined to support you directly taking the position of hall enforcer."

After another pause, Uncle Chi added:

"According to the rules, though, your seniority is still a bit lacking.

You understand that yourself."

Lin Yao replied,

"Thank you. I'll make arrangements and head over right away."

After briefing Ah Bu, Lin Yao drove straight to Wo Shing's headquarters as he remembered it.

The headquarters was located on the ground floor of an old tong-lau building on Ngau Tau Kok Road in Sham Shui Po.

This was Lin Yao's first time attending a full Wo Shing assembly.

When he was still about a hundred meters away,

he could already see the old building packed with people outside.

Jimmy, Airplane, and Master Su were standing together.

Jimmy's hair was slicked back, gleaming with pomade.

Anyone who knew would realize he was attending the Wo Shing general assembly.

Anyone who didn't might think he was attending a United Nations summit.

It was blazing hot—

everyone else wished they could go shirtless.

Yet Jimmy was wearing a full suit and tie.

Lin Yao had no idea what he was thinking.

Airplane and Master Su, by contrast, were dressed casually.

Airplane Not Pulling Up still looked at Lin Yao with provocation in his eyes—

that same defiant, unconvinced arrogance.

"A-Yao! A-Yao! You're here!"

At this moment, Officer Sam spotted Lin Yao and immediately jogged over to greet him.

He bowed several times in succession, wiped his runny nose,

and spoke with that heavy, distinctive junkie drawl:

"A-Yao, you need to hold yourself together!"

"Your boss died so tragically—no one knows who did it…

but I can guarantee it wasn't Big D!"

Lin Yao subconsciously leaned away from his mouth and asked,

"Uncle Sam, why are you so sure?"

"Like this—last night I was gambling at Big D's place, played a few rounds of baccarat.

He was there the whole time. Don't accuse the wrong person."

"Alright, I understand," Lin Yao said as he walked inside.

"Brother Wah had a lot of enemies.

Just a few days ago, Feng Boy was killed for no reason too.

I can't tell who's targeting our hall anymore."

Officer Sam suddenly leaned closer, his head wobbling as he whispered conspiratorially:

"A-Yao, your chance has come!

I've already talked to my boss, Uncle Dragon Root—he's definitely backing you!

I knew you were something special the moment I saw you!"

Looking at him like a child begging for candy,

Lin Yao suppressed his revulsion at the stench from his mouth and politely said,

"Thank you."

At that moment, Lin Yao noticed an elderly man in a white Tang suit.

From vague memories, he recognized him as Uncle Chi—Uncle Deng's trusted aide.

Seeing Lin Yao, Uncle Chi walked over and patted his shoulder meaningfully.

"A-Yao, Uncle Deng is waiting inside.

You go in first."

"Alright. Sorry for the trouble, Uncle Chi."

Lin Yao put on a grief-stricken expression and stepped into Wo Shing headquarters.

After that, Uncle Chi also summoned Airplane, Jimmy, Big Head, Master Su, Dongguan Boy, and several others inside.

As for the lower-ranking foot soldiers—

49ers, Blue Lanterns, and the like—

they were left outside to maintain security.

At the same time, in the surrounding alleys within one or two hundred meters of Wo Shing headquarters,

uniformed police, riot police, and plainclothes officers had already appeared.

Wo Shing had over eighty years of history.

Whether it was choosing a chairman or internal turmoil,

the police treated it like facing a major enemy.

In terms of sheer numbers,

Wo Shing was Hong Kong Island's largest triad.

Either nothing happened—

or it shook the entire city.

Lin Yao entered the conference room and stood directly behind Fat Wah's now-empty chair.

Uncle Deng saw him, his expression stern yet慈祥, and nodded.

He had clearly arrived early—

the tea in front of him was already half-finished.

String Exploder, Dragon Root, Blowjob Ji, Big D, Ah Lok,

and the other society elders were all present.

Only Dai Po Hei was absent today—

he had only sent his underling Dongguan Boy.

Dongguan Boy was now standing behind another empty chair—

that seat had belonged to Uncle Kuen.

Even though Officer Sam's tone earlier had been nauseating,

Lin Yao had already eliminated Big D as Fat Wah's killer based on what he said.

With that, the answer in his mind was nearly clear.

There was a 99% chance that Luk Kai-cheong,

acting to secure his own rise to power,

had ordered Fat Wah's death.

Of course, with Luk Kai-cheong's brain,

he would never do it personally—

and certainly wouldn't involve the police.

He would only kill by borrowing another's hand.

Still, this was only Lin Yao's speculation.

There was no way to prove it—

nor to disprove it.

Seeing everyone present, Uncle Deng got straight to the point:

"Fat Wah died tragically.

This is a slap in the face to Wo Shing!"

"Every brother here bears responsibility

to find the killer!"

"Additionally—Fat Wah's funeral affairs

will be handled by the newly appointed chairman!"

As he said this, his gaze went straight to Blowjob Ji.

All eyes in the room followed with a whoosh,

locking onto Blowjob Ji.

Compared to Fat Wah's death,

who would sit in the chairman's seat

was obviously far more important to Wo Shing.

The six words—

'New Chairman: Blowjob Ji'—

had barely landed when several people lowered their heads,

quietly whispering to one another.

Lin Yao swept his gaze around.

Big D's face was calm and indifferent.

The chairman's position had nothing to do with him—for now.

Ah Lok still looked harmless and guileless,

no emotion visible.

Blowjob Ji, meanwhile, looked shocked and overwhelmed by favor.

He stood up from his chair and said carefully:

"Thank you, brothers, for your support!

I'm deeply grateful!"

"If I become chairman,

I will dedicate myself fully to Wo Shing—

even unto death!"
