Chapter 8 - Chapter 8. Eyes of the Swift

"Eyes of the Swift…"

Aerin muttered, his face breaking into a smile.

However, as if a lamp ran out of oil, the glow in his eyes slowly faded out.

"So sleepy…"

Aaron just watched silently as his grandson's eyes slowly closed, as if he expected it.

When a person's ability has just awakened, it will automatically activate without the user's consent, as if announcing to the world its arrival.

After a while, as the user's body is not yet capable of maintaining their ability, they will run out of stamina and fall asleep.

Night passed quietly, but not for Aaron, of course. It took him a while to calm his heart. He was very happy that his grandson got the Eyes of the Swift, just like their ancestor.

Rak was a legendary being. He was even on the same standing as the forefathers of the major families. Some even said that he was stronger than them. However, Aaron was sure that his grandson would turn out as great as, if not greater than, Rak. Considering Aerin's age and Rak's, his grandson got the time advantage. If trained properly, then he would surely surpass Rak.

As the patriarch of the Valewood family, though their family only contains three members, he still hoped that they could be strong enough for the major families to regard them as equal.

Though he is a very strong hunter, regarded as one of the strongest in the air, if not the most, he knew that those old foggies from the major families still thought of him as below them. And rightfully so, his only edge is that he can fly, but in other aspects, he still fell behind them. There was nothing he could do then, but now, he felt his hope reignite.

However, after thinking for a while, he closed his eyes and let out a shameful laugh.

"You can't do it yourself, so you want your grandson to do it for you? "

He looked at Aerin, now peacefully sleeping, and smiled gently.

After a while, Aaron managed to sleep next to Aerin, too.

The sun was already high when Aerin woke up. Feeling refreshed, he walked out from the hut. He did not forget what happened last night. In fact, he remembered it clearly. What he experienced were the changes in his body, and especially his eyes. He could not wait to try it out.

He saw his grandfather outside. There, Aaron was sitting under the shade of a tree nearby, looking into the distance. Hearing some footsteps, he looked towards his approaching grandson. Seeing his grandson's excited face, he gave a smile.

Aaron stood up and faced his grandson.

"Morning, buddy. How are you feeling? "

"I'm feeling great, Grandpa. I'm not sure, but I feel like I'm a bit stronger than I was yesterday."

"Well, you should be. Your body just underwent a huge change last night. Right now, you are no longer a normal kid, but rather a human with a beast's ability."

Aaron explained, though seeing his grandson's confused face, he doubted Aerin understood any words he said. He started worrying. Awakening an ability can affect the personality and characteristics of a person, and from the looks of it, his grandson may have turned a bit dumber than he was before.

"Oh, okay."

After what seemed like thinking for a few seconds, Aerin nodded and gave a bashful smile.

"Now, activate your ability."

Aerin looked confused.

"How?"

"Just will it. Just like commanding your feet to move so that you can walk, command your ability to activate."

Aaron made sure to dumb it down for his grandson to understand it, and it seemed to have worked.

"Will it, will it…"

Aerin muttered. He then closed his eyes. After a few seconds, he slowly opened his eyes, revealing glowing golden-amber-colored eyes, making his grandfather a bit uncomfortable just being seen by them. He felt as if he was watched not by a small kid, but rather a predator. It gave off a feeling of scrutiny he had never felt from a fellow human before, only from beasts.

"Beautiful…"

"Now what, Grandpa? What should I do next? Oh, wait…? "

As if noticing something, he looked at his hands, then at his grandfather, then at his surroundings. Aaron, who was about to answer, stopped himself after seeing that his grandson seemed to have noticed something.

"What is it? "

Aaron asked. Aerin closed his eyes and then opened them again, looking confused.

"It's just that… you're not as slow as last night, and I am too. Though still a little slow, it is manageable now."

Aerin replied in a confused tone. Aaron was surprised. However, he quickly thought of an explanation.

"What you experienced last night is something called a special ability. It is an ability that comes with awakening your main ability and can be activated. In your case, your ability, the Eyes of the Swift, gives you a field of vision much wider than others, right? "

Aerin nodded.

"Your vision is also now much clearer. It does not matter if it's your main view or your peripheral view; they are all clear. Your vision is also now much sharper. You can see very far now, and you can even clearly make out each strand of my hair. Aside from that, I don't know if it has any other effects on your body. We need to check."

Aerin looked at his grandfather's hair, and indeed, he could clearly see each strand of hair, from where it sprouted to its end.

"Last night, you said that the world around you is very slow, right? "

Aerin just nodded.

"It means one thing. It's a special ability. It is actually very rare to awaken a special ability. Special abilities are unique. Some can activate it without activating their main ability; some could not. And in your case, I doubt you can activate it without activating your eyes first."

Though he did not show it, Aaron was actually very shocked. In the whole village, most hunters with special abilities come from the major families, like the Lion's Might of the Lionkin family.

A special ability, huh. I really cannot wait to see how you will turn out in the future, my precious grandson.
