Chapter 1 - The Legend of the Eternal Lotus

(background story for lotus)

Centuries ago, when the world was still young and the balance of nature fragile, the River Ganga was not just a flowing body of water but a living goddess. She descended from the heavens to cleanse the earth of its sins, carrying divine energy within her currents. But as humanity's greed and ambition grew, so too did their attempts to exploit her power. Wars were waged, kingdoms fell, and blood was spilled in her name.

Moved by the destruction, Ganga wept, her tears mixing with her sacred waters. From the place where her tears fell, a single lotus emerged, unlike any other. Its petals shimmered with an ethereal light, and its core pulsed with magic as ancient as the cosmos. The gods, fearing that such power in mortal hands could destroy the world, cast an enchantment upon the flower.

The Eternal Lotus would bloom only once every century, and it would not reveal its magic easily. It became a mirror of the soul—its power could heal, destroy, or transform, depending on the heart of the one who sought it. The pure of heart could use it to bring harmony, but those consumed by darkness would find their desires turned against them, their souls consumed.

To protect the lotus from those who sought to claim its power, the gods entrusted it to the first Lotus Keeper, a mortal priestess named Anika. Anika was chosen for her unwavering devotion to Ganga and her understanding of life's balance. She vowed to protect the flower and pass down her knowledge to her descendants. The Keepers were bound by a sacred oath to guard the lotus, ensuring it would never fall into the wrong hands.

But even the gods could not foresee the trials that would come. Over the centuries, the lotus became a whispered legend, its existence doubted by many but coveted by the few who believed. Kings, sorcerers, and adventurers alike searched for it, and the Keepers faced betrayal, loss, and death to uphold their duty.

As the centuries passed, the lotus's power grew stronger, its presence interwoven with the river itself. Now, it waits, hidden in the depths of the Ganga, its petals closed until the next fateful century turns. The Keepers know that each time it blooms, the world will face a test—a choice between selflessness and corruption, life and destruction.

And with each bloom, the balance of the world hangs in the balance.
