The thought of my friend being married and the fact that it is happening today, scares me thoroughly and even as though nothing had happened Nicolas walks in and I smile saying "this is your special day, mum is looking forward to seeing you"
"Caidee, can I remind you of a story our teacher made us write?"
"What one there was so many!"
"This one" he says softly before clearing his throat.
"'I woke up in the pitch black and roll out of bed. It's freezing. I rub my arms and put a hoodie over my pajama top I then call out for someone to see why it is colder than normal. No one out of the six of them replied. I go out and knocked on the door that leads to Maddie's door. She doesn't reply so I go in and see her fast asleep. I shake her slowly and repeat her name again my voice going high pitched and she turns to face me. Her eyes half closed "Maddie! Why on earth is it so cold? And dark for that matter" she sits up slowly and shakes her head
"Must be the fuse. Get Justin to check it" I nod and leave. Being the youngest I am the main person they have to look after. I get to Justin's door and rush in and jump on top of him "Justin...Maddie said you have to check the fuse"
"Come on...five more minutes"
"No Justin. Check it's too dark"
"You're seventeen not seven go do it yourself. It will be back on in an hour or so" I nod and head outside checking the fuse in my hoodie and pajamas. The fuse seemed fine so I went to my neighbor and knocked on their cold wooden door.
The neighbor had said that there is no electricity, gas, power and Wi-Fi she must have thought it would calm me down. It made me jumpier. I rushed inside and Maddie was downstairs trying to cook raw bacon. "Power is out. It's a complete black out."
"No way"
"Yes, it is unlikely to be back on today or tomorrow. The neighbor said."
"Full of rubbish" she continues to cook and Justin comes downstairs with Callum, Hannah and Georgia. I smile
"Complete black out now what?" Maddie says. Justin points at me
"She done it with our fuse"
"I wouldn't of went out if you never done it yourself"
"Still, you done it"
"I never touched it" Maddie ignores us muttering prayers to her gods and Georgia is looking for candles. Callum is trying to soothe Maddie and Hannah is waking Tia up. Tia comes down grumpily and I stop bickering with Justin. We sit down at our wooden table and eat some butter and jam sandwiches because the butter is kinda melted and easier to spread.
Justin began to have a 'game' plan. He had no idea what he was talking about. Callum mentioned to ration our food and split it. Hannah said she needs time to light all the candles around the house. Maddie is still in a state but she mentions going to the shop. What for we never got told. Tia says we need water because we can't survive two and a half days without it. I mention that for heat we can light a fire in our fireplace or outside. We split up and we get a list of supplies we need such as water, canned food, long lasting bread, and literally anything good for energy.
I get put with Justin and we get everything we need and still has some cash left. I spot blankets "we should get some blankets and lighters. Maybe some candles too." I suggest and Justin nods and we get the blankets and then we try to find the lighters. My fear is not as strong but it is still there.
We get back and Justin and I are greeted by candles all around and a burning fireplace. There is food on the table for lunch but not too little and not too much. It's mainly dairy since it won't last. Maddie is yelling since she wants to watch TV and there is no Wi-Fi. Georgia is with Hannah arguing about the circumstances with the candles and how they're a hazard. I see Callum flipping Maddie off and Tia is making a log pile beside the fireplace ignoring the drama. I yell at them to stop and they finally stop and we store everything away and eat lunch.
After Lunch we made sure everyone was as happy as could be then we played rounds of chess. We made sure we were all in the same room for the night with candles and mattresses and the candles a safe distance away. We had out duvets and blankets. We went to bed to get ready to do this all over again.
Justin woke up and woke me up and said "all our food and supplies is gone. Someone must have taken them." I at once get up and race downstairs he was right but who would do that? We barely had anything and then I heard crying. Maddie. I turn to find her hunched up sobbing her little broken heart out. I find all our stuff around her.
"What on earth are you doing?"
"Hades please spare our broken souls from this fateful place give us all our needs and we won't be in your realm we will give you peace from us" I stare at her.
"What are you doing?"
"Sending Hades our sign of giving up"
"right"
"Go back to bed" I leave and tell Justin and then I go back to sleep.'"
Nicolas pauses before grinning. "I remember it now, you thought you could have done it better and complained about it"
Just then my mum walked through the big crystal doors, her dragon bane crown glistening with its freshly polished hornlike ends. I smile as Nicolas' face lights up and he bows "your royal highness"
"Rise Nicky"
"Yes, your highness"
"Stop saying that you are family here, now let's go plan your big day!"
That's my mum throwing trust at anyone and everyone. I almost smile at the thought of Nicolas ever putting trust into anyone more than he had ever put into me and my mum.
My sister wanders into the room and gives me a huge grin before addressing Nicolas "little idiot, you think you can get married in that? Let me and Caidee help you with that!"
"Thank you!"
I drag Nicolas into our joint chambers and we begin the whole make-over, then the general walks in with a little girl who hugs onto Nicolas while my sister is mid-way painting his nails.
"Jenna, Darling. You okay, my little devil?"
"Yes father"
My heart is breaking, I am gone. This girl looks so much like my dead husband, Elliot, she has his eyes, the same glowing green. The thought of him being here now brings tears to my eyes, he was so kind and hardworking, even when Nicolas was completely rude when he never wanted to be, damn. If only my daughter had survived the fall of our kingdom five years ago.
My mum walks in and scoops Jenna into her arms before saying "Welcome to the family brave little one"
"You look like pretty warrior!"
"You mean my two daughters?"
"Mm!"
Nicolas is silent, his hand is at his throat. What is happening, his face goes pale, is this the end for Nicolas? Not on my watch!
I snap into action breaking the curse in an instant, before Nicolas can breathe, he says "you're a caster, aren't you Caidee?"
"Yes, I am. Why would it matter?"
"Jenna is a caster, a soul binding one at that"
"Like me? It's a family trait"
"Exactly, that means Jenna is related to you or anyone in your family tree"
This news shakes me in my core, is Jenna has our family trait whose could it be? Mum would of told me and so would my sister.
Jenna is my child, and someone never wanted me to find out, who? Who would do such a disgusting this as to keep a child from their mother?
